This fragrance is inspired by the Chinese New Year and the custom of giving ‘Mandarin Oranges’ or ‘giving gold’ as a gift to wish the recipient prosperity and good luck in the year ahead.

In China, mandarines are symbols of the New Year, new beginnings, new dreams and all the possibilities that life may bring. The sphere shape and golden /orange colour of mandarines symbolise the Sun associated within the yang principle, and all the positive and generative force of nature.

Mandarines have become a symbol of good fortune, luck and success.

During this time of festivities, mandarines are exchanged between families, friends and colleagues as offerings of goodwill. The families place all the mandarines they receive in pile, as a symbol of prosperity and wealth for the new year.

In Cantonese, mandarin means “the lucky tree” and it is an ancient tradition to place pairs of red envelopes with money and mandarines on the pillows of children, to bring good fortune to the house and its family.

It may come as a surprise to some in the perfumery world, that we describe this fragrance as a ‘Chypre’, even though it does not contain the notes typically associated with a chypre, such as Bergamot, Labdanum and Oakmoss.

However, the interplay of the beautiful fresh elements of Mandarin Blossom and the wonderfully rich warmth of Sandalwood, creates a unique interpretation that gives rise to a sensory delight that is typical of the best of Chypre notes.

An elegant Floral Chypre accord opening with the wonderful freshness of Mandarin Blossom and the top notes of Apricot and White Hyacinth.

Its romantic heart reveals a floral bouquet of Sweet Pea, Jasmin and Ylang, while the fond of Sandalwood, Patchouli, Amber and Musk creates a magnetic trail that beckons all on comers.
