New Year New Fragrance

New Year, New Fragrance: Finding The Scent That Defines The New You

The start of a new year has a way of making people pause, even if only briefly. It is often the smaller details that come into focus first, the everyday things that quietly shape how life feels. Fragrance sits firmly in that category. A scent can be tied to a memory, a mood, or a sense of confidence, sometimes without us realising it at the time. Trying something new does not mean letting go of old favourites. It is more about curiosity and seeing whether a different fragrance might suit the person you are becoming.

Some people naturally lean towards warm, spiced scents, while others prefer something fresh, floral or quietly woody. There is no right direction to take. Choosing a fragrance for the year ahead can simply be a way of marking intention, however loosely defined that intention might be. It is a gentle nudge beyond the familiar, and an opportunity to let a new scent by Pairfum London find its place in everyday life.

Oriental Fragrances

Spiced Coffee & Oaked Vanilla

Pink peppercorn and pear give the opening of this Oriental Spicy fragrance a bright, slightly playful lift, softened by orange blossom. Very quickly, the scent moves into deeper territory, where roasted coffee takes on a smoother edge through the presence of jasmine. As it settles, oak-aged vanilla becomes more prominent, supported by patchouli and cedarwood that add warmth and polish.

This fragrance often appeals to those who feel ready to step away from predictable choices. The mix of coffee and florals feels modern without being showy, and there is a confidence to how it wears over time. It is the kind of scent people tend to comment on when they notice it unexpectedly. Thanks to its layered warmth, it works just as well later in the day as it does in the morning, making it an easy signature for the year ahead.

Cardamom, Tonka & White Oud

A lively rush of lime and mandarin sets the tone here, with cardamom, nutmeg and clove adding immediate warmth. Cassis weaves through the opening before florals begin to emerge, with white lily, rose and orange blossom shaping the heart. In the background, tonka bean, white oud, sandalwood, cedarwood and amber build a rich and lingering base.

This is a fragrance for those who enjoy a sense of momentum in their scent. It opens brightly, grows warmer as it develops, and leaves a lasting impression without feeling heavy. Many people find that it becomes more noticeable several hours after first wearing it. It feels well-suited to anyone embracing change or renewed focus in the year ahead.

Floral Perfumes

Pink Rose & Sensuous Musk

Lemon and lime introduce this fragrance with a fresh sparkle, followed by a gentle hint of ripe peach. The floral heart feels soft rather than dramatic, with a pink rose joined by magnolia and frangipani. As the fragrance wears on, musk and amber come through, supported by precious woods that give it a subtle warmth.

There is an uplifting quality to this scent that makes it feel especially fitting for new beginnings. It manages to feel light and elegant at the same time, avoiding anything overly sweet. It is often chosen by those who want a floral that feels easy to live with day after day. The musky base gives it quiet confidence, allowing it to sit comfortably as an everyday floral with character.

Neroli, Musk & Orange Blossom

This fragrance begins with neroli, offering a clean and natural freshness from the first spray. Orange blossom and Madagascan jasmine follow, creating a white floral heart that feels balanced and unforced. Cedarwood and musk form the base, adding softness and a gentle sense of depth.

For those who prefer clarity over complexity, this scent feels reassuring and easy to wear. The florals are refined rather than loud, giving it a timeless quality that suits many occasions. It often feels particularly comforting when worn close to the skin. As it settles, the musky notes provide warmth and comfort, making it a dependable choice for the year ahead.

Aromatic Scents

Sea Salt, Sage & Amber

Sage and grapefruit lead the opening of this fragrance, with bergamot and tangerine adding brightness. As it develops, the scent takes on a coastal feel, shaped by sea salt, kelp and marine notes that suggest fresh air and open space. Musk, amber and cedarwood soften the finish and keep everything well balanced.

This fragrance feels particularly refreshing without being sharp or fleeting. The marine heart gives it character, while the base ensures it remains wearable throughout the day. Some people associate it with moments of mental clarity or a change of pace. It is often chosen by those looking for a clean, modern scent that still feels considered and distinctive.

Ginger, Elemi & Vetiver

Bright citrus notes of bergamot and grapefruit appear first, quickly warmed by ginger, elemi, nutmeg and cinnamon. Lavender adds a calming touch before a complex floral heart emerges, featuring geranium, rose, freesia, gardenia, jasmine and orange blossom. Subtle hints of coconut and raspberry sit beneath the florals. Vetiver, woods, amber, musks, vanilla and moss shape the base.

This fragrance rewards attention as it wears, revealing different facets over time. It is well-suited to those who enjoy contrast in their scent, moving between freshness, spice and softness. It tends to feel slightly different depending on the time of day it is worn. The base gives it depth and longevity, making it a confident choice for expressing individuality.

Fougere Perfumes

Bergamot, Basil & Patchouli

The opening here is fresh and green, with bergamot and lime supported by leafy notes and basil. Floral tones of lily, freesia, violet leaf, rose, and geranium form the heart, adding brightness and balance. Patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, cedarwood and amber anchor the fragrance and give it a lasting presence.

This fragrance feels versatile by nature, shifting easily between freshness and warmth. It has a classic fougere structure but wears in a contemporary way. Many people return to it because it feels familiar without becoming dull. For those reassessing their signature scent, it offers reassurance alongside character.

Grapefruit, Pepper & Black Cedar

Grapefruit and bergamot give this fragrance an energetic start, immediately catching attention. As it develops, leather comes forward, supported by black pepper and nutmeg that add warmth and texture. The base is deep and woody, built around black cedar, patchouli, tonka bean and moss.

There is a boldness to this scent that feels deliberate rather than overpowering. The freshness of the opening keeps it approachable, while the leather and woods give it strength. It is often worn when someone wants to feel especially self-assured. It suits those who want their fragrance to project confidence and direction.

Woody Fragrances

Spiced Rum, Lime & Guaiac Wood

Rum sets the tone at the opening, warm and full-bodied, lifted by lime and lemon with a touch of spice from nutmeg and pepper. The heart introduces tuberose and iris alongside a pronounced leather note, adding texture and depth. Guaiac wood, cedarwood, amber, vanilla pod and musk complete the fragrance with a smooth, lingering finish.

This scent has a measured richness that unfolds gradually. It appeals to those who enjoy craftsmanship and detail, rather than immediate impact. Many find it particularly satisfying during quieter, more reflective moments. The warmth of the base makes it well-suited to a more intentional fragrance choice.

New Year Celebrations

Chypre Perfumes

Mandarin Blossom & Sandalwood

Mandarin blossom opens this floral chypre with a bright, fresh note, joined by apricot and white hyacinth. The heart feels soft and romantic, blending sweet pea, jasmine and ylang-ylang. As it dries down, sandalwood, patchouli, amber and musk provide warmth and a gently lingering trail.

This fragrance feels elegant without being formal. The contrast between freshness and a traditional chypre base gives it depth, while remaining approachable. It often appeals to those who enjoy classic styles interpreted with lightness. It works beautifully as a personal signature.

Scarlet Rhubarb & Oakmoss

Tart rhubarb introduces this fragrance with immediate vibrancy, joined by sun-dried fruits and ripe strawberries. Apple and apricot lead into a floral heart of white gardenia, which softens the brighter notes. Oakmoss and musk form the base, adding richness and longevity.

There is a confidence to how this fragrance develops, moving from bright and lively to warm and grounded. The chypre base gives it structure, while the fruit keeps it expressive. It tends to leave a lasting impression without needing to be reapplied often. It is a strong choice for marking a new chapter.

Fruity Fragrances

Black Cherry & Oolong Tea

Black cherry and red berries define the opening here, lifted by bergamot and rounded with almond. The heart introduces oolong tea alongside Bulgarian and Turkish roses, with a gentle hint of liquorice adding interest. Aniseed, tonka bean, iris and patchouli complete the fragrance with a smooth and balanced base.

This scent feels thoughtful and composed rather than overtly sweet. The tea note brings calm sophistication, while the fruit keeps it engaging. Many people find it feels particularly personal, as though it settles uniquely on them. As it wears on, the base adds depth and confidence.

Hair Perfume

Hair Perfume: Add The Ultimate Signature Scent to Your Hair

Most people are familiar with the concept of wearing perfume on the skin, but hair perfume is an an elegant alternative that is gaining popularity across beauty routines everywhere.

Whether you’re new to the idea or already a fan, hair perfume is the perfect way to layer a fragrance into your look in a more subtle, refined way. It’s about more than just a lovely scent, this beauty essential helps refresh, care for and enhance your hair throughout the day.

What Exactly Is Hair Perfume?

A hair perfume is a fragrance mist made specifically for the hair. It differs from eau de parfum or a body mist because it is designed to work with the structure of the hair fibre rather than your skin. While a traditional perfume often contains alcohol that can dry out the strands, a quality hair mist is formulated to nourish as well as scent.

Most formulas contain lightweight ingredients that add shine, tame flyaways and leave behind a lasting, delightful scent. Some versions are even packed with honey, botanical extracts or a hint of hair oil, allowing you to combine scent and hair care in one effortless step.

Why Hair Perfume Deserves a Place in Your Routine

There’s something alluring about walking past someone and catching a soft trace of perfume in the air. The scent that lingers in the wake of movement is more than a sensory pleasure, it becomes your signature scent.

The hair is naturally more absorbent than skin, making it a superb carrier of fragrance. Because it shifts as you move, it naturally diffuses the mist throughout the day. A few spritzes of hair perfume in the morning can last far longer than applying a body fragrance mist.

Beyond its sensory appeal, hair perfume also helps refresh dry hair, especially between washes. For those with damaged hair, using a hair mist with added hair oil or honey infused hair perfume offers both scent and support.

How to Use Hair Perfume the Right Way

To apply, hold your hair mist at least 20 centimetres away and spray lightly through the mid-lengths and ends. Avoid the roots to maintain volume and prevent buildup. You can also mist your hairbrush and run it through your strands for even distribution.

For long-lasting wear, apply your hair perfume on freshly washed and dried hair, as clean strands hold a fragrance better. Just a few spritzes are enough to leave a trail of sweet scent behind you.

If you like to layer, pair your hair fragrance with a complementary eau de parfum or keep it light by using just the hair mist for a softer effect. This is ideal in warmer weather or when you want something less intense than a typical perfume.

Benefits of Using a Hair Mist

Choosing a hair perfume is not just about scent. Many hair mists are crafted to enhance the look and feel of your hair, often containing moisturising oils and nutrients. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Scent that lingers: The hair fibre holds perfume longer than skin.
  • Improved shine: Ingredients like honey and plant oils help bring dull hair back to life.
  • Multi-use: Acts as a light hair treatment for frizz control and hydration while hair styling
  • Gentler than skin perfumes: A good hair mist fragrance spray avoids heavy alcohol, making it kinder to your scalp.
  • Refreshes on the go: Ideal after a gym session or when travelling.
  • Signature scent layering: Combines well with your favourite scent or stands alone for a whisper-soft trail.

What to Look For in a Hair Perfume

Choosing the right hair perfume depends on your hair type, your usual perfume preferences and how you want to wear your scent. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Ingredients: Look for conditioning elements like honey, hair oil, or antioxidants.
  • Purpose: Do you want hydration, scent or both?
  • Fragrance family: If you love vanilla, jasmine, or patchouli, seek those notes in your hair fragrance mist.
  • Formulation: For fine hair, a lightweight mist is best. Thicker hair may benefit from a richer formula.

You’ll also find some of the best options in honey infused hair perfume, a category celebrated for both its sensorial and nourishing qualities. Whether it’s soft jasmine, warm vanilla, or vibrant citrus, there’s a hair perfume that captures your personal essence.

Luxurious Hair Perfume

The Difference Between Hair Mist and Body Mist

While both add fragrance, a body mist is made for the skin and often contains more alcohol. A hair mist, on the other hand, is gentler and often includes hydrating ingredients designed to support hair care.

That said, combining a hair perfume with a complementary body fragrance mist is a simple way to create dimension in your overall perfume profile. Think of it as your own signature blend.

Some people also opt to layer a hair perfume with a body spray or lighter fragrance mist to create a subtle, seamless veil of scent across both hair and body.

Trending Now: Honey Infused Hair Perfume

One of the most talked-about trends in modern hair care is the rise of honey infused hair perfume. Not only does honey lend a soft, sweet aroma to the mist, but it also attracts moisture and provides a healthy-looking shine. The natural antibacterial properties of honey make it ideal for promoting scalp balance and reviving damaged hair.

Some hair mists with honey also double as styling aids, helping tame flyaways and adding a soft, touchable finish.

If you’re curious about experiencing the benefits of honey infused hair perfume, now is the time to visit your favourite beauty brands and explore the category.

Who Should Use Hair Perfumes?

The short answer: anyone who wants their hair to smell as good as it looks.

Whether you have thick curls or fine strands, there’s a hair perfume or freesia hair mist that works with your style. For everyday wear or special occasions, a light mist can help your hair feel refreshed and refined without weighing it down.

There’s even a lady hair mist variation designed to add softness and elegance to more formal looks, perfect for weddings or evening events.

White Musk Perfume

Unveiling the Irresistible Allure White Musk Perfume

The allure of white musk perfume lies in its subtle yet memorable scent, providing a sense of elegance and sensuality. Whether worn daily or reserved for a special occasion, white musk has the power to transform your fragrance experience. Its musky aroma blends seamlessly with other ingredients to create layered and complex fragrances.

What is White Musk Perfume? Why is it Special?

White musk is a synthetic fragrance highly sought after for its clean, soft, and slightly sweet scent. Unlike natural musk, which was derived from animals, white musk is created in laboratories, ensuring a cruelty-free and ethical product. This makes it a staple ingredient in many perfumes, including the well-loved Body Shop white musk range. White musk perfume is known for its sophistication, offering a balance of freshness and warmth that appeals to a wide range of fragrance preferences.

Synthetic white musk fragrance oil is a versatile ingredient used across beauty and personal care products, blending well with other notes like jasmine, patchouli, and vanilla, making it ideal for those who seek a signature scent that leaves a lasting impression.

Authentic Neroli Musk Orange Blossom

The History of White Musk in Perfumery

Historically, natural musk was extracted from animals, primarily the musk deer, but concerns over animal cruelty led to the shift toward synthetic production. This ethical shift allowed brands to lead the charge with cruelty-free offerings.

In the modern perfume industry, synthetic white musk is more sustainable, and it has made it possible for perfumes to be vegan and allergen declaration compliant, appealing to eco-conscious consumers. This cruelty-free development has also aligned with the rise of targeted advertising and advertising partners promoting ethical beauty standards.

Techniques for Extracting White Musk Fragrance

While white musk is synthetically produced, several methods ensure the fragrance’s quality and consistency:

  • Synthetic Production: This laboratory process mimics natural musk’s scent without harming animals, making it an ethical choice for vegan and cruelty-free perfumes.
  • Solvent Extraction: This method captures delicate aromas like white musk while preserving the fragrance’s integrity, ensuring the final bottle of perfume is pure and potent.
  • Steam Distillation: Occasionally used alongside other ingredients, this method helps refine and balance white musk, ensuring it blends perfectly with complementary notes like jasmine, amber, and aldehyde.

Types of White Musk and Their Characteristics

White musk comes in various forms, each offering unique qualities. From soft, powdery varieties to musks with a rich, amber undertone, perfumers can craft distinctive scents based on the type of white musk used. Here’s a breakdown of the different types:

  1. Macrocyclic Musks: Known for their fresh and skin-like scent, these are commonly found in personal care products, such as fragrance oils and lotions. They offer a clean aroma with hints of neroli and iris.
  2. Polycyclic Musks: Often used in luxurious, layered perfumes, these musks provide a more intense warmth. They blend well with earthy notes like patchouli and creamy notes like vanilla to create perfumes that last and evolve throughout the day.
  3. Nitro Musks: These synthetic musks have largely been replaced due to environmental concerns, but they offered a rich, powdery smell, often used in perfumes to add depth and balance.
  4. Linear Musks: Praised for their consistent, long-lasting scent, these musks ensure that a perfume maintains its lasting impression throughout the day.

White Musk’s Olfactory Profile: What Does It Smell Like?

White musk is often described as having a musky, clean, and soft aroma. Its powdery quality adds a sense of sophistication and sensuality without being overpowering. When used in perfumes, white musk serves as a base note, allowing top and middle notes such as jasmine, lily, and neroli to shine while adding a smooth, enduring foundation.

The clean aldehyde character of white musk perfumes adds a crisp freshness, making it a go-to for those who prefer fragrance profiles that evoke freshness and elegance. This is why white musk perfume is often considered a signature scent for those who appreciate subtlety and refinement in their perfume choices.

Everyday Uses and Products Featuring White Musk

White musk is a versatile ingredient found in a variety of products, ranging from personal perfumes to home fragrances. Here are some common uses of white musk:

  • Personal Fragrances: White musk is the heart of many personal fragrances, providing a soft, long-lasting aroma. It is often used in perfume oils, offering a concentrated scent that lingers close to the skin. Perfumes featuring white musk create a lasting impression that works well for both everyday wear and special occasions.
  • Skincare and Hair Care: Many lotions, creams, and hair care products use white musk for its subtle scent. Brands feature white musk in their beauty collections, creating gentle yet sophisticated aromas that enhance your skincare and hair care routine.
  • Home Fragrance: White musk’s calming scent is perfect for reed diffusers, candles, and room sprays. Its soft, musky aroma helps create a relaxing atmosphere at home. Many related products in the home fragrance market use white musk fragrance oil to craft scents that offer both elegance and comfort.

White Musk’s Ethical and Cruelty-Free Appeal

With the increasing demand for vegan, cruelty-free perfumes, white musk has become a key player in the ethical beauty movement. As a synthetic ingredient, white musk eliminates the need for animal-derived musk while maintaining the allure of traditional fragrances. Brands like The Body Shop, Jo Malone and Pairfum London have embraced this trend, incorporating white musk into their clean fragrance lines.

Additionally, many related products featuring white musk now include an allergen declaration, further ensuring that the fragrance is safe for all users. As more consumers shift their preferences toward ethical beauty, white musk continues to be a top choice for eco-conscious individuals.

Popular Perfumes Featuring White Musk

White musk has been a central note in many iconic perfumes over the years. Its delicate yet enduring scent profile makes it a popular choice in perfume collection staples. Notable brands such as Jo Malone London and The Body Shop offer beloved variations of white musk perfume.

For those who prefer a softer approach to fragrance, white musk perfume oil offers a more intimate and concentrated scent. Oils are often longer-lasting and can be applied to pulse points for a more personal fragrance experience.

White musk is also found in numerous candles and reed diffusers, creating a warm, musky ambience at home, whether for relaxation or to enhance a special occasion.

Fragrance Base Notes

Fragrance Base Notes: The Olfactory Foundation

Fragrance base notes are at the centre of the delicate world of perfumery, where the composition of a fragrance is akin to a symphonic orchestra and every note plays a pivotal role in defining the overall harmony. At Pairfum London, where tradition meets the zeitgeist of contemporary fragrance tastes, the importance of fragrance base notes cannot be overstated. These base notes form the foundation of a perfume, lingering long after the top notes have dissipated and providing depth and longevity to the scent.

Join us as we explore the essential role of base notes in the world of perfume composition, diving into their chemistry, emotional impact, and how they contribute to your perfect scent. Discover the artistry of blending different notes that make up the fragrance pyramid, which leads to a harmonious, long-lasting scent experience.

The Structure of a Perfume: Top, Middle, and Base Notes

To truly understand base notes, it’s crucial to look at the overall structure of a fragrance, often depicted in a fragrance pyramid. This pyramid illustrates how a perfume unfolds in three stages:

  1. Top Notes: These are the initial, fleeting scents you smell immediately after applying a perfume. Typical top notes include citrus elements like lime, grapefruit, and lemon.
  2. Middle Notes (also known as heart notes): These are the core of a fragrance and last longer than the top notes. Middle notes often feature floral notes like lavender or spices such as cinnamon.
  3. Base Notes: The lasting essence of a fragrance. Base notes anchor the perfume and include rich, heavy elements like musk, tonka bean, benzoin, and woody scents like cedarwood and sandalwood.

Understanding this structure is key to appreciating how base notes ensure the longevity and character of your signature scent.

Fragrance Description Sandalwood Chypre Neroli Lychee Labdanum Tonka

The Role of Base Notes in a Fragrance

Base notes are the longest-lasting components in a fragrance and often determine how the scent develops over time. These notes tend to be deeper, richer, and more complex than the fleeting top or middle notes. Common base notes include vanilla, amber, patchouli, and various woody notes like sandalwood and cedarwood.

The choice of base notes greatly influences a perfume’s overall personality. For instance, a base note like tonka bean can add warmth and sweetness, while benzoin lends a resinous, balsamic aroma. These ingredients are often the most memorable part of a perfume because they linger on the skin for hours, making the initial scent evolve as time passes.

Common Base Notes in Perfumery

In perfumery, there are several common base notes that perfumers use to craft long-lasting and impactful fragrances. These include:

  • Vanilla: Adds a creamy, warm sweetness, often found in gourmand and floral fragrances.
  • Musk: Provides a sensual, powdery base that enhances the overall longevity of the scent.
  • Patchouli: A deeply earthy and woody note that gives depth to many woody scents and oriental fragrances.
  • Tonka Bean: Lends a subtle spice with hints of sweetness, often used in warm, comforting fragrances.

These popular base notes form the backbone of most perfume compositions, creating a balanced and harmonious fragrance that evolves beautifully throughout the day.

Fragrance Base Notes Tonka Bean

Exploring Different Fragrance Families

Fragrance families categorize perfumes based on the dominant notes used in their composition. Understanding these families helps in identifying the perfect scent for different occasions or moods. The major fragrance families include:

  • Woody Scents: Featuring woody notes like cedarwood, sandalwood, and patchouli. These fragrances are warm, rich, and ideal for evening wear.
  • Floral Fragrances: Dominated by floral notes like lavender, rose, and jasmine. These are often light, airy, and suitable for daytime.
  • Citrus Scents: Incorporating refreshing elements like grapefruit, lime, and lemongrass. Citrus scents are invigorating and perfect for summer.

By blending fragrance base notes from different families, perfumers can create unique, multi-dimensional fragrances that appeal to a wide array of preferences.

Base Notes in Scented Candles and Colognes

Base notes are not only vital in perfumes but also play a significant role in creating long-lasting scented candles and colognes. A well-crafted candle relies on base notes to provide depth and ensure the scent lingers in the room even after the flame is extinguished.

Similarly, in colognes, base notes such as musk, cinnamon, and vanilla help to anchor the lighter opening notes, ensuring the fragrance develops gradually and lasts longer on the skin.

The Emotional Connection of Base Notes

Beyond their physical properties, base notes form an emotional bond with the wearer. A fragrance is deeply personal, and the base notes are often what a person remembers most. These enduring elements evoke memories, feelings, and associations that can transport someone to a different time or place.

For example, vanilla is often linked with feelings of warmth and comfort, while woody notes like cedarwood may evoke a sense of calm and relaxation. This emotional depth is why selecting the right fragrance involves more than just choosing a pleasant scent—it’s about finding a perfume that resonates with your emotions and personality.

At Pairfum London, we are committed to sourcing our fragrance oils sustainably. Many traditional base notes, such as natural musk, have ethical concerns due to their origin from animals. Personalising Your Scent and Seasons Journey

Selecting the perfect perfume for each season is a personal journey. Consider your favourite fragrance lifestyle, preferences, and the emotions you want to evoke. At Pairfum London, we offer a diverse range of seasonal fragrances to suit every taste and personality, ensuring you find the perfect scent to accompany you through the year.

Fragrance Layering and Seasonality

The art of fragrance layering allows you to create unique scent combinations that evolve throughout the day. In spring, layer a delicate floral eau de parfum with a fresh green body lotion. In summer, combine a zesty citrus cologne with a light, fruity hair mist. As the seasons change, explore the endless possibilities of fragrance layering to express your individuality.

The History of Seasonal Fragrances

The use of versatile fragrances to mark the passing seasons has a rich history, dating back to ancient civilizations. Aromatic herbs and spices were used to celebrate harvests and religious festivals, while floral scents adorned spring rituals and ceremonies. In medieval Europe, pomanders filled with cloves and oranges were carried to ward off disease during the winter months. Today, we continue this tradition by embracing seasonal scents with fragrance oils that connect us to the rhythms of nature and the heritage of our ancestors.

The Scent And Seasons

Scent and Seasons Trends

The world of fragrance is constantly evolving, with new scent trends emerging each season. From the resurgence of classic floral scents in spring to the growing popularity of woody and gourmand notes in winter, staying abreast of these trends allows you to explore the latest olfactory creations and discover new favourite fragrances. At Pairfum London, we stay at the forefront of seasonal scent trends, offering a curated selection of perfumes that reflect the latest inspirations while staying true to our timeless elegance.

The Impact of Climate on Fragrance Choices

Climate and geographical location can significantly influence our fragrance preferences. In hot weather, lighter, fresher scents are often preferred, as they provide a sense of refreshment and invigoration. On the other hand, colder months invite us to embrace heavier scents that offer warmth and comfort. Consider your local climate when selecting seasonal fragrances to ensure they complement your environment and enhance your overall well-being.

Caring for Your Fragrances in Different Seasons

Proper storage is essential to preserve the integrity of your fragrances. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, as this can alter their delicate composition. In summer, store your perfumes in a cool, dark place. In winter, keep them away from radiators and other heat sources. By taking care of your fragrances, you can enjoy their beauty and complexity for years to come.

A Royal Signature Scent King Charles III Monarch Relaxed

King Charles III: A Royal Signature Scent?

Will there be a Royal Signature Scent, both during the Coronation and the years of his reign? Are there some commonalities in the fragrances that King Charles III wears?

As a public figure, King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales, has been known to have a refined taste in niche fragrances and couture perfumes.

While the exact perfumes he has used over the years may not be publicly disclosed, there have been reports of some of his favourites.

We take a closer look at some of the fragrances that King Charles III has been said to enjoy:

  1. Guerlain Vetiver: This classic men’s fragrance has been a favorite of King Charles III for many years. It features notes of citrus, tobacco, and vetiver, giving it a fresh yet sophisticated scent that is perfect for both casual and formal occasions.
  2. Floris No. 89: Another favourite fragrance of Prince Charles is Floris No. 89. This fragrance is a combination of citrus, lavender, and musk, creating a clean and classic scent that is suitable for daily wear.
  3. Creed Green Irish Tweed: Creed is a well-known luxury fragrance brand that is favored by King Charles III. Green Irish Tweed is one of Creed’s signature scents and is a woody, fresh fragrance with notes of sandalwood, lemon, and verbena.
  4. Dunhill Icon: This fragrance has a modern and sophisticated scent that is a supposed favourite of King Charles III. It features notes of neroli, black pepper, and leather, giving it a masculine and confident edge.
  5. Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet: This classic fragrance was created in 1902 and is one of Penhaligon’s signature scents. It features notes of citrus, lavender, and pine, creating a fresh and timeless scent that is perfect for any occasion.
  6. Dior Eau Sauvage: In his book “Spare”, Prince Harry reveals that King Charles III would “slather the stuff on his cheeks, his neck, his shirt. Flowery with a hit of something harsh, like pepper or gunpowder, it was made in Paris.” It is believed he refers to Dior’s Eau Sauvage after-shave.

Looking at the commonalities of these fragrances, we notice the following:

  • He seem to prefers the following type of accord: citrus, fresh spicy, aromatic, woody. This is a very classically masculine accord.
  • Creed’s Green Irish Tweed, is the one that differs most from the others on this list, as it is a “green, floral, woody note”.

With this in mind, we believe there is an 80% chance that the Royal Signature Scent during the Coronation and his reign will be “citrussy, spicy fresh, aromatic and woody”.

Prince Charles: A Moderniser?

Prince Charles has expressed his views on modernization and the need to balance progress with preservation of traditional values and cultural heritage. However, it is important to note that his opinions on modernization and his approach to governance may not necessarily align with a strictly defined concept of “modernism.”

Prince Charles is known for his interest in environmental sustainability, organic farming, and architecture that reflects traditional design principles. He has also advocated for the use of renewable energy and the preservation of cultural heritage.

At the same time, Prince Charles has been known to take a more traditional approach to certain aspects of governance, such as his preference for handwritten correspondence and his support for charitable organizations that reflect more traditional values.

Overall, while Prince Charles has expressed his views on modernization, his approach to governance and leadership may be best characterized as a blend of traditional and modernist values.

Pairfum London A Royal Signature Scent King Queen

A Traditional & Modernist Royal Signature Scent?

It is widely expected that King Charles III will modernise the crown. Can we expect that he will modernise his Royal Signature Scent?

As perfumers, we doubt that his taste will change radically. However, we believe it is not unreasonable to expect that to see evolution and some change in his taste.

Were we asked to introduce a new Royal Signature Scent for King Charles III, we would present the following fragrances to him:

Bergamot, Basil & Patchouli:

This woody and aromatic accord opens with Bergamot, Lime, Green Leaves and spicy Basil. The heart is fresh with Lily, Freesia, Violet Leaf, Rose and Geranium. The note rests on a beautifully rich woody base of Patchouli, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Cedar and Amber.

You can view this fragrance here.

Grapefruit, Pepper & Black Cedar:

A rich, woody and spicy fragrance where the zest of Grapefruit & Bergamot infuse the opening with freshness. The sensual heart of Masculine Leather is enhanced by the rich spicy elements of Black Pepper and Nutmeg. The base is intense and woody with Black Cedar, Patchouli, Tonka Bean and Moss.

Find out more about this fragrance here.

Ginger, Elemi & Vetiver:

A surprising fusion of spices and freshness, it opens with notes of Bergamot, Grapefruit and hint of Lavender, combined with Ginger, Elemi, Nutmeg & Cinnamon. The heart is Geranium, Rose, Freesia, Gardenia, Jasmin and Orange Blossom, with fruity hints of Coconut and Raspberry. A base of Vetiver, Guaiacwood, Cedar, Amber, Cashmere Musks, Vanilla & Moss supports this note.

Pairfum London A Royal Signature Scent Queen Consort Camilla

A Royal Perfume Experience?

Camilla, the Queen Consort, is known to have a wonderfully positive influence in her relationship with King Charles III.

It has been speculated that she has expressed her dislike to some fragrances that the Prince of Wales has worn in the past.

With this in mind, we would suggest a shared, Royal Perfume Experience to the King & Queen, when the time comes for a new Royal Signature Scent.

In this context, we highly recommend our own Perfume Experience Box, a Fragrance Library with 12 x Natural Eau de Parfum Intense. It allows Camilla & Charles to experiment with natural niche fragrances and perhaps to discover new olfactive accords they both love.

Will there be a new Royal Signature Fragrance? Will it be a Natural Niche Fragrance?

Knowing that Charles has always promoted Sustainability and a blend of the Traditional & Modernist, he might surprise us.

God save the King.
