Will there be a Royal Signature Scent, both during the Coronation and the years of his reign? Are there some commonalities in the fragrances that King Charles III wears?
As a public figure, King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales, has been known to have a refined taste in niche fragrances and couture perfumes.
While the exact perfumes he has used over the years may not be publicly disclosed, there have been reports of some of his favourites.
We take a closer look at some of the fragrances that King Charles III has been said to enjoy:
- Guerlain Vetiver: This classic men’s fragrance has been a favorite of King Charles III for many years. It features notes of citrus, tobacco, and vetiver, giving it a fresh yet sophisticated scent that is perfect for both casual and formal occasions.
- Floris No. 89: Another favourite fragrance of Prince Charles is Floris No. 89. This fragrance is a combination of citrus, lavender, and musk, creating a clean and classic scent that is suitable for daily wear.
- Creed Green Irish Tweed: Creed is a well-known luxury fragrance brand that is favored by King Charles III. Green Irish Tweed is one of Creed’s signature scents and is a woody, fresh fragrance with notes of sandalwood, lemon, and verbena.
- Dunhill Icon: This fragrance has a modern and sophisticated scent that is a supposed favourite of King Charles III. It features notes of neroli, black pepper, and leather, giving it a masculine and confident edge.
- Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet: This classic fragrance was created in 1902 and is one of Penhaligon’s signature scents. It features notes of citrus, lavender, and pine, creating a fresh and timeless scent that is perfect for any occasion.
- Dior Eau Sauvage: In his book “Spare”, Prince Harry reveals that King Charles III would “slather the stuff on his cheeks, his neck, his shirt. Flowery with a hit of something harsh, like pepper or gunpowder, it was made in Paris.” It is believed he refers to Dior’s Eau Sauvage after-shave.
Looking at the commonalities of these fragrances, we notice the following:
- He seem to prefers the following type of accord: citrus, fresh spicy, aromatic, woody. This is a very classically masculine accord.
- Creed’s Green Irish Tweed, is the one that differs most from the others on this list, as it is a “green, floral, woody note”.
With this in mind, we believe there is an 80% chance that the Royal Signature Scent during the Coronation and his reign will be “citrussy, spicy fresh, aromatic and woody”.
Prince Charles: A Moderniser?
Prince Charles has expressed his views on modernization and the need to balance progress with preservation of traditional values and cultural heritage. However, it is important to note that his opinions on modernization and his approach to governance may not necessarily align with a strictly defined concept of “modernism.”
Prince Charles is known for his interest in environmental sustainability, organic farming, and architecture that reflects traditional design principles. He has also advocated for the use of renewable energy and the preservation of cultural heritage.
At the same time, Prince Charles has been known to take a more traditional approach to certain aspects of governance, such as his preference for handwritten correspondence and his support for charitable organizations that reflect more traditional values.
Overall, while Prince Charles has expressed his views on modernization, his approach to governance and leadership may be best characterized as a blend of traditional and modernist values.
A Traditional & Modernist Royal Signature Scent?
It is widely expected that King Charles III will modernise the crown. Can we expect that he will modernise his Royal Signature Scent?
As perfumers, we doubt that his taste will change radically. However, we believe it is not unreasonable to expect that to see evolution and some change in his taste.

Bergamot, Basil & Patchouli:
This woody and aromatic accord opens with Bergamot, Lime, Green Leaves and spicy Basil. The heart is fresh with Lily, Freesia, Violet Leaf, Rose and Geranium. The note rests on a beautifully rich woody base of Patchouli, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Cedar and Amber.

A rich, woody and spicy fragrance where the zest of Grapefruit & Bergamot infuse the opening with freshness. The sensual heart of Masculine Leather is enhanced by the rich spicy elements of Black Pepper and Nutmeg. The base is intense and woody with Black Cedar, Patchouli, Tonka Bean and Moss.

A surprising fusion of spices and freshness, it opens with notes of Bergamot, Grapefruit and hint of Lavender, combined with Ginger, Elemi, Nutmeg & Cinnamon. The heart is Geranium, Rose, Freesia, Gardenia, Jasmin and Orange Blossom, with fruity hints of Coconut and Raspberry. A base of Vetiver, Guaiacwood, Cedar, Amber, Cashmere Musks, Vanilla & Moss supports this note.
