Should it be CognoScenti, Fragrancista or Perfumista?

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Scarlet Rhubarb Oakmoss Hat The Magic Of Perfume

Introduction

We all know what a Perfumer is! But, what do we call somebody that is passionate and knowledgeable about Fragrance? Here at Pairfum London, we are asking: Should it be a Fraghead, CognoScentiFragrancista or Perfumista? Are they simply synonyms?

Have you ever met someone so enamoured with fragrance that their eyes light up at the mere mention of a new scent? A perfume lover called by many names, whether Fraghead or Perfumista, embodies a deep passion for the art of smell. Here at Pairfum London, we’re fascinated by these individuals who can detect the subtle notes of a fragrance and cherish every whiff of a carefully crafted scent. They’re the ones who can tell you the difference between a signature scent and a fleeting trend, often seeking out a beautiful fragrance that speaks to their soul. Their love for perfume oil and luxury perfume often leads them to explore iconic creations from houses like Yves Saint Laurent, where every bottle tells a story of elegance and allure. For these enthusiasts, a perfume bottle is more than just a container; it’s a treasure chest of emotions waiting to be unlocked with each spray on their skin. They revel in the smell of a perfect fragrance, hunting for that perfect scent or perfect perfume that feels like it was made just for them. Whether it’s a unique scent or their favourite fragrance, their journey is one of endless discovery, guided by an unshakeable connection to the world of fragrance.

Perhaps before even posing this question, we should start with the following background:

  • How do you describe a ‘Lover of Perfume’?
  • What sets them apart from the crowd?
  • How can you spot of this species?

In this blog post, we answer these, incl. “What is a CognoScente“? (remember the ‘e’ at the end instead of an ‘i’)

Enjoy!

CognoScenti?

What is a ‘CognoScenti‘? It sounds like ‘connoisseur’ and a term that morphs ‘scent’ with ‘connoisseur’, but the term ‘cognoscenti’ does actually exist.

The dictionary defines it as ‘persons who have superior knowledge and understanding of a particular field, especially in the fine arts, literature, and the world of fashion.

In the World of PAIRFUM, a ‘CognoScenti’ is a person who ‘Loves’ perfume. In other words, a connoisseur who can distinguish between a good and a bad fragrance. Somebody who would not be able to, or even wish to create a perfume themselves.

It is similar to the difference between a Gourmet and Chef:

  • Gourmet, an expert judge in matters of taste and fine dining, also sometimes described as an ‘Epicure’ a person who takes particular pleasure in fine food and drink.
  • Chef, a trained professional cook, proficient in all aspects of food preparation. They may focus on a particular cuisine. The term is derived from ‘chef de cuisine’.

So, what do we call somebody that appreciates ‘Fine Perfumes’, regardless of whether it is an Eau de Parfum, a Fragranced Candle or a Body Lotion? You may wonder why we include Home Fragrances and Skin Care products in this question but ask yourself the following:

  • Have you brought a ‘Perfumed Candle’ or a fragranced gift to a house warming party as an alternative to a bottle of wine?
  • Have you ever presented a set of beautiful toiletries, as a Gift?

Fragrancista or Perfumista?

Making a Fragrant Gift has been part of civilisation for thousands of years, perfumes and fragrances can be traced to multiple ancient cultures, Egyptians associated their perfumes with the gods, fragrances were also highly prized by ancient Iranians and Chinese cultures.

Here is an example:

In the bible, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh were presented by the Three Wise Men to the infant Jesus.

It is still a very important part of our cultures today, and it illustrates how much a part of our psyche perfumes or fragrances have become in all their beautifully different facettes.

In this context, many of us will have heard the terms ‘Fragrancista‘, ‘Perfumista‘ and ‘Parfumista‘.

Unfortunately, ”Fragrancista” does not easily roll off the tip of our tongue and “Perfumista” and “Parfumista” are registered trademarks (e.g. Puig, a fashion and fragrance business based in Barcelona), which prevents us from using them in our daily lives.

The exception to this rule is “Hoover“:

  • The term “Hoover” is a registered trademark, and
  • yet is also commonly means to ‘vacuum’ in everyday life.

Fraghead?

The term fraghead is more of a new term that has gained traction and popularity on Social Media.

It is obviously a term inspired by ‘Motorhead’: someone who loves everything around motors: cars, motorbikes, planes, boats, …

In our view, this is actually not a bad fit. It conveys passion, expertise and dedication. The fact that it is being used by lovers of perfume to describe themselves shows that the perfume community agrees with it and has naturally started using fraghead to describe itself.

Cologneisseur?

What about ‘Cologneisseur,’ the combination of Cologne and Connoisseur in one word? Though rarely used, this term could represent a perfume lover who has a specific passion for colognes or lighter, fresher scents. Despite its limited use in the perfume society, it perfectly fits the modern perfume enthusiast with a deep knowledge of this category.

Unlike more concentrated fragrance oils used in niche perfumes, colognes generally have a lighter, fresher appeal. Still, for someone who treasures the subtlety of an orange flower or a fruity blend, this term might resonate. The Cologneisseur is someone who appreciates the elegance of an everyday fragrance but with the discernment of a perfumer. Perhaps with time, the term will become as beloved as the bottles it represents.

Alternatives?

So how else can we honour, appreciate or describe a ‘Perfume Lover‘ or perfumista?

For some inspiration, let’s have a look at the many fields where society has coined phrases to affectionately identify a person with a passion or strong preference. All of these have in common that they do not describe the ‘Chef’ but the ‘Gourmet’, i.e. they don’t actually ‘cook’ or produce / perform the art but ‘eat’ or enjoy it instead :

  • Whiskey Connoisseur, Beer Connoisseur – need we say more?
  • Turophile – is a connoisseur of cheese, a cheese lover.
  • A Sommelier or wine steward, is a trained specialist or wine professional, normally working in fine restaurants, who specialises in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing.
  • Fashion Aficionado – “Dedicated follower of Fashion” – The Kinks
  • Devotee is an enthusiastic believer in a particular form of religion or God, but it can also be applied to a person.
  • Book Critic – some would say they ‘Love’ books, at other times they may just ‘Hate’ them.
  • Art & Antique Appraisers or Valuers – They love ‘Art & History’ and they know how much it is worth.
  • A Fan or Supporter – a person who is enthusiastically devoted to something or somebody, such as a singer, band, or a sports team etc.
  • A Movie Buff – person who loves and knows a lot about movies, movie fan, movie enthusiast, movie expert.
  • Geek – once an insult now a compliment, someone who engages in or discuss computer-related tasks with great attention to technical detail – one of the reasons we love this word ‘The Big Bang Theory’
  • A Birder – in Oxford English  ‘A birdwatcher’ – Somebody that loves to study and admire birds in their natural habitat
  • Balletomane – an ardent admirer or lover of Ballet
  • Enthusiast of Music – a person who is very driven or has a huge passion for music and musical culture.
  • Theatre Lover
  • Afficionado – a person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime.
  • A Patron of the arts
  • Follower – throughout history a follower has always had a special meaning, and in the age of ‘Social Media’ it continues to do so.

From the list above we can see how we describe a person’s expertise or passion in their field, even if they are not the ‘chef’?

As the old joke goes: “A farmer is out-standing in his or her own Field”

There are many other terms that we use to describe a passionate follower or lover of a particular subject: adherent, supporter, upholder, defender, advocate, champion, disciple, votary, partisan, member, friend, stalwart, believer, worshipper, attender, expert, authority, specialist, pundit and last but but not least ‘dab hand'( if you are a ‘dab hand’ at something, you are very good at doing it).

Now it is very important to note, that none of these specialists, may actually know how to make, create or play the art they support and yet, they are very knowledgeable and in some cases more knowledgeable than the creators themselves.

Here is an example (with the recent Euros tournament in mind):

A Footballer as a opposed to a Fan/Pundit, the former actually plays the game, whereas the latter appreciates it.

“CognoScente”?

In trying to correctly define a ‘Lover of Perfume’, we came across a phrase that we believe would be perfect to describe somebody that loves perfume: CognoScente

We could even go a step further with this version: Cog-Nose-cente

As we mentioned earlier in the post, these are “people who have superior knowledge and understanding of a particular field”.

In their definition of the term, the dictionary “Mirriam Webster” describes “Cognoscente and Connoisseur” as more than synonyms: they are also linguistic “cousins”.

With such an endorsement, it surprises us that the term has not seen greater popularity.

What is stopping it from becoming the typical term to describe a ‘perfume lover’? We would love to know.

How To Spot This Species?

Now to the last questions:

  • How do you spot a “CognoScenti” or “Perfumista”?
  • How do you know if you are or fast becoming one of this ‘Species‘, i.e. the perfume lovers?

Simply answer these questions and you might surprise yourself:

  • Do you enter the room with your nose first? Before you say ‘No’, think how often you have revelled in the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, bread or a wonderful meal, before ever taking a single step into the kitchen, restaurant or bakery!
  • Do you smell wine, chocolate, cheese, lotions & potions or other items, before you taste or try them?
  • Do you get excited about a new Perfume, a Scented Candle, Room Perfume, Fragranced Soap or Reed Diffuser?
  • Can you re-create in your mind’s eye the fragrance of Lavender, or freshly mown grass?
  • Do you talk to others about Perfume, e.g. at a party, or compliment somebody on their fragrance?
  • Do you find yourself saying that you love perfume?

If you can answer ‘Yes’ to any or all of the above, then you should give yourself a pat on the back: you can now proudly carry any of the titles of “CognoScenti”, “Fragrancista”, “Perfumista” or “Fraghead”? Welcome to the community.

Which Title do you prefer? Are you perhaps using another term?

Regardless, we would love to hear from you and to welcome you to the World of Pairfum London. We love perfume, too.

Spotting a Perfume Lover Through Their Choices

Another telltale sign of a true perfume enthusiast is their eclectic collection and attention to detail. You’ll often find them with a bigger bottle of their go-to fragrance, alongside smaller vials of niche offerings from brands like Frederic Malle or Parfums de Marly. They’re drawn to a perfume brand that resonates with their personality, whether it’s the timeless charm of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or the bold allure of Serge Lutens. Their vanity might also feature an array of home fragrance products, because for them, every space deserves a captivating scent. They’re likely to experiment with different scents, layering a vanilla scent with hints of ylang ylang or a touch of ginger for a spicy kick. Their skin becomes a canvas, absorbing the warmth of musk or the delicate bloom of jasmine, transforming each fragrance into something personal. And it’s not just about perfume, watch them delight in the smell of fragrant hand creams or a beautifully scented soap, proving that their obsession with scent extends to every corner of life. Whether it’s a powdery note or a spicy accord, they can describe how each fragrance shifts their mood, making every day a sensory adventure.

How to Become a Perfume Connoisseur?

Becoming a perfume connoisseur is not just about having an extensive collection of fragrances; it’s about understanding the intricacies that go into each bottle.

Here are some steps to guide you on your aromatic journey:

  • Educate Yourself: Start by learning the basics of perfumery, including notes, accords, and olfactory families.
  • Smell, Smell, Smell: This is the most important skill and you should train your nose continuously by smelling individual ingredients and also fragrances, both the classic or iconic notes and the new introductions to the market. Accept that this will take time and you will enjoy the experience.
  • Sample Widely: Don’t limit yourself to commercial fragrances. Explore niche perfumes, vintage scents, and even natural fragrances to broaden your olfactory palette.
  • Attend Workshops: Many cities offer perfume-making workshops where you can learn firsthand from experts in the field.
  • Read and Research: Follow blogs, read books, and even academic papers on perfumery to deepen your understanding.
  • Network: Join online forums and social media groups where perfume enthusiasts share their knowledge and experiences.
  • By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a true perfume connoisseur.

Building Your Fragrance Wardrobe

As you embark on your journey to becoming a perfume connoisseur, think of building a fragrance wardrobe as essential as curating a collection of outfits. Start with a versatile fragrance that suits everyday wear, perhaps a light and floral scent that feels effortless on your skin. Then, add a bold fragrance for special occasions—something with depth and character that leaves a lasting smell in every room you enter. Don’t shy away from experimenting with a bottle or two of niche fragrance, as these often offer unexpected combinations that can redefine your perception of scent. Include a variety of bottles to match different moods and seasons—a warm, comforting scent for winter nights, and a fresh, zesty fragrance for summer days. Each bottle in your collection should tell a story, from the first smell that caught your heart to the latest fragrance that surprised you with its charm. At Pairfum London, we encourage you to mix and match, layering a fragrance over another to create your own unique scent. Keep exploring until every bottle on your shelf feels like an extension of who you are, each scent and smell a chapter in your personal tale of fragrance.

The History of the Perfume Connoisseur

The concept of a perfume connoisseur dates back to ancient civilizations where fragrances were considered a form of art and a symbol of status.

In ancient Egypt, perfumes were associated with the gods, and only the elite had access to these divine scents. Fast forward to the 18th century in France, the birthplace of modern perfumery, where perfume was seen as a luxury and a sign of sophistication.

Over the years, the term “perfume connoisseur” has evolved, but the essence remains the same: a deep appreciation and understanding of the art of scent.

Today’s “Perfumista” is typically associated with “Niche Perfumes”, a further step in the evolution of the “CognoScenti”.

The Science Behind Fragrances

Understanding the science behind fragrances can add another layer to your appreciation of perfumes. Perfume enthusiasts, often part of the Perfume Society, are keenly aware of how the interplay of perfume ingredients—such as jasmine, musk, and vanilla—creates memorable aromas.

Did you know that our olfactory receptors can detect more than one trillion distinct scents? These receptors are directly linked to the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotions and memory. This connection explains why certain fragrances, like the iconic Coco Chanel or Baccarat Rouge 540, can evoke intense emotional responses. For some, these scents trigger feelings of nostalgia or sexual attraction, while others may experience a sense of calm or happiness. Delving into this science of perfumery makes you appreciate the layers of craftsmanship involved in creating your favorite signature scent.

Moreover, pheromones—natural chemicals secreted by our bodies—are often incorporated into fragrance oils to amplify feelings of attraction. While not all niche perfumes rely on this, understanding how our body’s natural scent interacts with external perfume oils can deepen your perfume journey.

The Craftsmanship Behind Every Bottle

Behind every bottle of fragrance, there’s a world of artistry that only a true perfumer can fully appreciate. The role of a perfumer is akin to that of a painter, blending notes to create a masterpiece that dances on the skin. At Pairfum London, our perfumer team spends countless hours perfecting each scent, ensuring that every bottle delivers an unforgettable smell. They might weave together the richness of ylang ylang with a spicy undertone, or balance a powdery floral with the earthiness of patchouli, creating a fragrance that lingers in the mind as much as on the skin.

This dedication is what draws perfume lovers to collect multiple bottles, each one representing a unique chapter in their aromatic journey. From the elegant bottle designs to the complex scent profiles within, the work of a perfumer transforms a simple smell into an experience. Whether it’s the contents of a classic bottle or a modern fragrance, the magic lies in how it evolves—starting with a burst of freshness before settling into a deeper, more intimate scent. It’s no wonder that enthusiasts treasure each bottle, often displaying them like art, knowing the smell inside holds the power to transport them anywhere.

Why Scent Matters in Our Daily Lives

Scent is not just about smelling good; it’s an integral part of our daily lives. As perfumery has evolved, scents like amber, vanilla, and jasmine have made their way into everything from home fragrances to luxury perfumes like Frédéric Malle and Jo Loves. These scents create an ambiance that transforms how we experience the world.

Consider the uplifting aroma of orange flower in the morning or the cozy, grounding scent of musk in a relaxing evening environment. A good perfume can shift your mood, just as a particular smell can transport you to a specific time and place in your love story. Fragrances help define our personal and social environments. Fashion designers often leverage this, using specific scents to complement their collections and create an immersive sensory experience.

The Emotional Power of Scent on Skin

Let’s not underestimate the intimate bond between scent and skin. A true perfume aficionado knows that a fragrance isn’t just something you wear, it’s something that becomes part of you. The way a scent clings to your skin can change its character, revealing layers of jasmine or a hint of patchouli as the day unfolds. This personal alchemy is why finding a signature scent or your favourite scent feels like discovering a hidden part of yourself. The smell of a well-chosen fragrance on your skin can boost your confidence or soothe your mood, whether it’s a powdery whisper or a spicy burst of energy.

For a young woman stepping into the world of fragrance, this connection is often magical. She might spritz on a body spray for a light, everyday smell, or indulge in an expensive perfume for a special occasion, letting the scent linger on her skin as a memory. At Pairfum London, we’ve seen countless customers describe how a single bottle of fragrance, be it rich with musk or soft with a vanilla scent, has marked a milestone in their lives. It’s this transformative power of smell on the skin that keeps us all coming back for more, eager to explore the next captivating scent.

For a perfume lover, noticing these nuances enhances daily experiences. From the aroma of fresh flowers to the lingering smell of perfume bottles on your vanity, scent plays an essential role in shaping how we navigate life.

Perfume Quotes

Obviously, as London’s perfumers, we have to place his fragrance quotes at the top of this article:

1. “A woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting.”

This quote reflects Dior’s belief in the intimate power of scent. To him, perfume is not just an accessory but a deeply personal expression of a woman’s identity. While handwriting can reveal aspects of one’s character, a fragrance is an invisible, lingering signature that communicates a woman’s essence and presence more profoundly. In the fashion industry, this underscores the importance of selecting a fragrance that resonates with one’s true self, aligning with Dior’s philosophy that fashion and beauty should enhance and reflect the individual.

2. “Grooming is the secret of real elegance. The best clothes, the most wonderful jewels, the most glamorous beauty don’t count without good grooming.”

Dior’s emphasis on grooming as the foundation of elegance highlights his holistic view of fashion. He believed that true elegance comes from attention to detail, not just in clothing but in personal care and presentation. This philosophy extends to the fashion industry, where even the most exquisite garments and accessories fall short without the refinement and care that good grooming brings. Dior saw grooming as a crucial element that ties together all aspects of style, creating a polished and sophisticated appearance.

3. “Long after one has forgotten what a woman wore, the memory of her perfume lingers.”

This quote illustrates Dior’s understanding of the enduring impact of fragrance. Unlike fashion, which is often fleeting and visually oriented, perfume creates a lasting impression that stays with people long after the moment has passed. For Dior, this lingering memory embodies the lasting influence of a well-chosen scent, reinforcing the idea that perfume is an integral part of a woman’s legacy. In the fashion industry, this emphasizes the importance of selecting fragrances that leave a memorable mark, much like iconic fashion designs.

4. “Make me a fragrance that smells like love.”

Dior’s request for a fragrance that “smells like love” speaks to his desire to capture emotions in his creations. Love, being a universal and powerful emotion, becomes a source of inspiration for a scent that evokes warmth, passion, and intimacy. This request reflects Dior’s innovative spirit and his belief that fashion and fragrance should not only beautify but also evoke deep emotional responses. In the industry, it signifies the challenge of translating abstract concepts into tangible, olfactory experiences that resonate with the wearer and those around them.

5. “Perfume is a mark of female identity and the final touch of her style.”

Dior regarded perfume as a vital component of a woman’s identity, one that completes her overall look and presence. This quote underscores the idea that fashion is not just about clothes but about the complete package—how a woman presents herself to the world. Perfume, as the final touch, encapsulates her individuality and complements her style, making it a crucial element in Dior’s vision of feminine elegance. In the fashion industry, this highlights the role of perfume in creating a cohesive and personal style statement.

6. “Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress.”

For Dior, perfume was the essential accessory that completed a woman’s ensemble, much like the perfect piece of jewellery or a well-chosen handbag. This quote reflects his belief that fragrance enhances and completes a woman’s personality, bringing her outfit and overall presence to life. In the context of the fashion industry, it emphasizes the synergy between clothing and scent, where each element works together to create a harmonious and impactful image.

The interpretations of these perfume quotes draw on Dior’s philosophy that fashion is not just about clothing but about creating a complete and memorable identity, with perfume playing a crucial role in that process.

Christian Dior has left a lasting legacy in the fashion industry. Here are some of his quotes on Fashion:

Accessorising with Dior’s Vision

When envisioning the complete look of a Dior woman, accessories played a pivotal role in Christian Dior’s philosophy. He believed that true elegance was in the details, recommending statement pieces like a sparkling multi-stoned necklace to elevate a simple black skirt or sweater, as mentioned in his quotes on colour. This attention to accessorising wasn’t limited to jewellery; Dior also admired precision and craftsmanship in other luxury items, such as a finely made Tag Heuer watch, which could add a touch of sophistication to any ensemble. For Dior, these elements weren’t just adornments but vital identifiers of personal style, ensuring that every outfit—whether a bespoke Dior outfit or a casual ensemble—was a reflection of the wearer’s unique character. Sharing this vision through his designs, Dior encouraged women to embrace accessories as extensions of their personality, much like a carefully chosen woman’s perfume that completes the story of who they are.

  • The American woman, faithful to the ideal of optimism with the United States seems to have made its rule of life, spends money entirely in order to gratify the collective need to buy. She prefers three new dresses to one beautiful one and does not linger over a choice, knowing perfectly well that her fancy will be of short duration and the dress which she is in the process of buying will be discarded very soon.

What Would Christian Dior Think About Niche Perfume?

Christian Dior would likely love niche perfumes today because of his deep appreciation for individuality, elegance, and the art of fragrance. Dior believed that perfume is an essential part of a woman’s identity, a sentiment that resonates strongly with the ethos of niche perfumery.

Niche perfumes, with their focus on unique, high-quality ingredients and artistic expression, embody the same dedication to craftsmanship and personal distinction that Dior championed in his fashion and fragrance designs. This alignment with his values of sophistication and originality would certainly appeal to him.

In recent years, niche perfumes have grown exponentially in popularity, especially as consumers increasingly seek out fragrances that differentiate them from mainstream, mass-produced offerings. Unlike traditional commercial perfumes, niche perfumes are crafted with more attention to artistry, using rare, premium ingredients that ensure an exclusive and distinctive scent profile. These perfumes often focus on storytelling and emotional connections, allowing wearers to experience more than just a fragrance — they embody an identity, a mood, or a unique journey.

At Pairfum London, we embrace these values of authenticity and personal expression. If you love fragrances and are looking for unique & natural niche perfumes, we invite you to try our range of Eau de Parfum Intense in the 100 ml, the 30 ml Travel & Sport Size, or explore our Perfume Experience Box.

What Would Christian Dior’s Views Be On ‘Natural’ And ‘Sustainable’?

Christian Dior had a profound love for natural materials, as they were central to his vision of luxury and authenticity. He often spoke about the importance of using high-quality, natural ingredients in both fashion and fragrance, believing that they brought a unique richness and depth to his creations.

“You can never really go wrong if you take nature as an example.” This quote resonates deeply with Dior’s design philosophy and his love for natural inspiration, which is a key aspect of his legacy.

Although the concept of eco-credentials as we know it today was not a prominent concern during Dior’s time, his preference for natural materials aligns with modern eco-friendly practices, which emphasise sustainability and the responsible sourcing of ingredients.

Today, the niche perfume industry has also responded to growing consumer demands for sustainability. Many niche perfumeries, including Pairfum London, are committed to using responsibly sourced ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, and sustainable production methods. This is especially important as the modern fragrance enthusiast values not only luxury but also ethical and environmental responsibility. Dior’s legacy, therefore, naturally complements today’s growing emphasis on eco-conscious and natural luxury.

Legacy

Dior’s impact on the fashion and perfume industries has been immense. His designs have influenced countless fashion designers, and his perfumes remain popular to this day. Dior’s legacy has been celebrated in exhibitions, books, and films, and his name remains synonymous with glamour and elegance.

Expanding on Dior’s Legacy

Christian Dior’s legacy is one of unparalleled innovation and timeless elegance, shaping not just fashion but also the world of fragrance with creations that continue to inspire. His vision, often referred to as Dior’s legacy, transcended mere trends, establishing a blueprint for sophistication that remains relevant today. Part of this enduring influence can be seen in how he empowered women through his designs, believing that every detail—from a meticulously crafted Dior outfit to the subtle notes of a woman’s perfume—could define personal style. His ability to weave emotion into his work, whether through the cut of a gown or the scent of a fragrance, set a standard for individuality and self-expression.

Dior’s legacy also extended to the people he inspired and worked with, including notable figures like Marc Bohan, who served as Creative Director of the House of Dior for three decades. Bohan continued Dior’s tradition of excellence, introducing iconic designs that further cemented the brand’s status. This collaborative spirit was central to Dior’s approach, often sharing his vision with others to create pieces that resonated deeply with audiences. His creations became identifiers of a unique identity, marking the wearer as someone who valued craftsmanship and elegance above all else.

In addition to his fashion and perfume achievements, Dior was also a committed philanthropist. He donated generously to various charitable causes, including hospitals, children’s charities, and cultural institutions. He also established the Christian Dior Cultural Centre in Granville, which hosts exhibitions and events celebrating his life and work.

Unfortunately, Dior’s life was cut short when he died of a heart attack in 1957 at the age of 52. However, his fashion house continued to thrive under the leadership of his protégé, Yves Saint Laurent, and later designers such as John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Today, the House of Dior remains one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world. It continues to push boundaries with its innovative designs, and its perfumes remain among the best-selling in the world. However, it’s important to note that the niche perfume segment has emerged as a counterpoint to these mass-market luxury brands. Niche perfumes, unlike their mainstream counterparts, prioritize artisanal craftsmanship and individualistic scents, often catering to a smaller, more discerning audience.

At Pairfum London, we are proud to contribute to this shift in the fragrance landscape by offering perfumes that are not only luxurious but also distinctive, natural, and sustainable. We invite you to explore the world of niche perfumery and discover the art of fragrance reimagined.

A Brief History of the Fruity Fragrance Family

The fruity fragrance family has a relatively recent history compared to other scent olfactory families in the world of luxury fragrances and perfumery. The popularity of fruity compositions grew exponentially in the 1990s, with the debut of iconic fragrances such as Cacharel’s Eden and Lancome’s Poême.

However, as early as the 18th century, certain fruity notes were being infused into floral bouquets, albeit in a more subtle manner. Over time, the fruity fragrance family has evolved and expanded to encompass a remarkable array of fragrances, each boasting a unique harmony of sweet, succulent, and juicy notes.

Cultural and Emotional Significance of Fruity Fragrances

Fruity fragrances are more than just a delightful olfactory experience—they hold cultural and emotional significance that resonates across the globe. The vibrant and uplifting notes of citrus fruits often evoke feelings of joy and energy, while the warm, rich aromas of soft fruits like raspberries and peaches bring a sense of comfort and nostalgia. These fragrances can transport us to cherished memories, evoke the warmth of summer days, or inspire wanderlust for exotic destinations.

The Fruity Fragrance Family Defined: Signature Notes and Characteristics

At the heart of the fruity fragrance family lies a magnificent symphony of juicy and sweet notes inspired by nature’s bounty. Fruity perfumes showcase a diverse palette of flavours, from luscious red berries and zesty citrus fruits to exotic tropical offerings such as mango, passion fruit, and papaya. These fragrances often blend fruity notes with complementary florals, woods, spices, or gourmand accords to create a lavish and sophisticated aroma that is both appealing and invigorating.

Fruity fragrances are known for their versatility, as they can be alluring and seductive, playful and flirtatious, or bright and uplifting, depending on the specific notes and accords within the composition. Owing to their diverse nature, fruity perfumes can be worn in a multitude of settings, from daytime rendezvous to sultry evening encounters.

Unearthing the Subcategories of the Fruity Fragrance Family

While the fruity fragrance family as a whole is unified by the common thread of enticing and delicious fruity notes, it can be further categorised into distinct subfamilies that showcase particular aroma profiles. Some of the most prominent subcategories within the fruity scent family include:

  • Soft Fruits: Often evoking memories of sun-soaked orchards and hedgerows laden with wild berries, soft fruit fragrances encompass scents that incorporate notes of juicy raspberry, red berries, plums, peaches, and apricots. These fragrances tend to be sweet and mouth-watering, similar to soft floral notes, with an irresistible warmth and richness.
  • Tropical Fruits: Indulge your senses with the alluring scents of faraway island paradises, as fragrances in this subcategory boast intoxicating notes from an exotic fruit such as coconut, pineapple, mango, and papaya. Perfumes from tropical fruit often possess an opulent, tropical aura that transports us to lush, fragrant gardens and sun-drenched beaches.

The Evolution of Fruity Fragrances: From Classic to Contemporary

The journey of fruity fragrances has seen significant evolution over the decades. From the initial subtle incorporation of fruity notes into floral scents, modern fruity perfumes now feature bolder, more pronounced aromas that capture the essence of fresh fruits in their purest form. This shift mirrors the changing tastes and desires of consumers who increasingly seek fragrances that are both authentic and sophisticated.

The Art of Blending Sub-Families: How Fruity Notes Interact with Other Fragrance Families

One of the fascinating aspects of the fruity fragrance family is its remarkable ability to harmonise with other fragrance families, creating captivating and complex olfactory experiences. Some of the most prevalent combinations within the world of fruity perfumes include:

Fruity-Floral: Perhaps the most iconic and beloved pairing, a fruity-floral fragrance marries the sweetness and juiciness of fruit notes with the elegance and sophistication of the floral fragrance family including flowers floral bouquets and other notes like floral amber. This synergy results in a delightful and versatile perfume that resonates with a wide audience.

Fruity-Woody: Combining the succulence of a fruity note with the depth and warmth of woody accords, fruity-woody fragrances present a fascinating olfactory duality. The juxtaposition of juicy fruits and rich dry or mossy woods creates an enchanting and enthralling aroma that is both comforting and sophisticated.

Fruity-Oriental: By weaving exotic fruits with opulent spices and warm, sensual notes from the oriental fragrance family, fruity-oriental perfumes transport us to a realm of mystery and opulence. These intoxicating fragrances evoke the allure of faraway lands and evoke a sense of luxury and indulgence, as do other oriental fragrance pairings like floral oriental perfumes.

  • Beauty Red – Ésika – 2013

Fruity-Gourmand: Perfumes within this delectable pairing combine the mouth-watering aromas of fruits with sweet, gourmand accords such as chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. The result is irresistible fresh fragrances that appeal to our innate fondness for delightful, indulgent treats.

  • “Each fragrance is a symphony where nature plays the lead role.” In the world of perfumery, nature is the star. This quote by Maat likens a fragrance to a symphony, where each note plays a part in creating a harmonious blend. However, it is nature that takes centre stage, guiding the creation of the scent.

Lightweight Skin Care Perfume Implications

Trend: Lightweight Skin Care. Implications For Your Perfume?

Introduction:

During this year’s summer, one trend is lightweight skin care and it is a trend that is expected to continue into the autumn and to be resurrected for holidays in sunny & warm destinations.

In this blog post, we explain what lightweight skin care is and what implications this trend has for perfume and your use of perfume.

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Sea Salt Sage Amber Woman Tropical Lightweight Skin Care

What Is Lightweight Skin Care?

Lightweight skin care products add hydration without lying heavily on the skin.

The reasons are simple:

  • First, it allows for a healthy amount of vitamin D to penetrate the skin. Vitamin D is essential for overall health, and it can also help to protect the skin from sun damage.
  • Second, lightweight products are less likely to clog pores. This is important, especially during the warmer months when sweat, oil and residues from other skin care products can build up on the skin. Clogged pores can lead to breakouts, so it is important to use products that allow your skin to function naturally.
  • Finally, lightweight skincare products are often packed with beneficial ingredients that can improve the overall health of the skin. These ingredients may include hyaluronic acid, vitamin C or retinol.

Some products that fall into this lightweight category are tinted moisturizers, sunscreens, lotions and serums. Many of these products became a staple before spending the day in the sun. However, consumers are starting to think these benefits could be useful in all other seasons as well.

Many lightweight skincare products are aimed at packing in many beneficial skincare ingredients to ensure that your skin is left healthier after use. Healthier skin is the goal year-round, so we will be seeing this trend stick around.

An important thing to note about this trend is that lightweight products are perfect for applying before a full face of makeup. So, whether you are planning a day in the sun or a night out, lightweight skincare is not just a trend but a skin priming go-to for healthy skin.

Trend Lightweight Skin Care Implications Perfume

What Are The Implications Of Lightweight Skin Care For Perfume?

We expect that the popularity of lightweight skincare will lead to a trend towards lighter, more refreshing perfumes, which are less likely to clog pores or irritate the skin.

In particular, here are our perfumer’s thoughts on how the trend towards lightweight skincare impacts the use of perfume:

  • Perfume Concentration: Perfumes come in different concentrations, ranging from eau de parfum (EDP) to eau de toilette (EDT), eau de cologne (EDC) and eau fraiche (EF). EDPs are the most concentrated type of perfume, and they typically last the longest. EDT, EDC and EFs are less concentrated than EDPs. Eau Fraiche in particular are ideal for those that are looking for a perfume to match their lightweight skin care, as it offers a light, refreshing scent. It will require, however, that you re-apply the perfume several times during the day, in particular in countries or at times when the weather is warm or even hot.
  • Oil-Based Perfumes: Oil-based perfumes, e.g. Parfum, Extrait or Attars, are excellent options for people with dry skin, as they can help to hydrate the skin and prevent it from drying out. However, oil-based perfumes will be heavier than the other types of perfumes we mentioned and will risk that your pores get clogged. In other words, they may not be suitable for people with oily, acne-prone skin or if you are concerned with clogged pores.
  • Alcohol-Free Perfumes: Alcohol-free perfumes appear at first sight to be another excellent option when looking for a lightweight perfume solution. However, they are typically water based and contains ingredients that have the potential to clog pores and build up on your skin. As a consequence of the water content, a water-based perfume will require the following ingredients that don’t evaporate:
    • solubilisers, to get the perfume to mix with the water,
    • preservatives, to prevent bacteria build-up in the water, and
    • other typically ingredients, such as foaming inhibitors, colourants, …
  • Nozzles: Perfume sprays come with spray nozzles of varying quality. They control the amount of perfume that is released but also how fine and wide the mist is that they release. This is an area where low-cost perfume save money buy opting for lower quality spray nozzles with a heavier mist. Equally, while a rollerball or perfume pen can help to apply a perfume more precisely, they do tend to apply a heavier, thicker film then a delicate and fine spray nozzle does. Hence, we believe that perfume sprays are more in line with lightweight skin care.
  • Application: Many of us rub our wrists after applying perfume. This mixes the skin care products you have applied with the perfume you just sprayed. We believe this routine goes against the intentions of lightweight skin care, as this could potentially block pores. Hence, we suggest that you simply spray your perfume and allow it to dry naturally.
  • Amount: Another recommendation of ours would be to spray less perfume but re-fresh and top up your perfume it more frequently throughout the day. You will find that this works much better in hotter climates.
  • Area: Spray your hair instead of your skin! This is a perfect fragrancing solution to accompany your lightweight skin care approach. In particular, we recommend lifting your hair and spraying your perfume into it from underneath. This helps to reduce perfume evaporation in hot climates.
  • Perfume Notes: The style of the perfume note can also impact how it interacts with lightweight skincare. For example, perfumes with strong, heavy notes may not align with lightweight skincare. Perfumes with lighter, more refreshing notes may be a better choice.
  • Back Notes: Back notes are the notes that linger on the skin after the initial scent has evaporated. Some people prefer perfumes with strong back notes, while others prefer perfumes with lighter back notes. If you are concerned about lightweight skincare interfering with the back notes of your perfume, you may want to choose a perfume with lighter back notes. Having said, the exact opposite can be observed in climates with high & extreme temperatures, e.g. the Arabic region, where the dominant back note is Oud, a note famous for its longevity. In other words, consumers tend to opt for heavy backnotes in the regions with high temperatures.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the best way to find out which perfume and how you apply it that works best for your with your lightweight skincare, is to experiment.

With a little trial and error, you should be able to find a solution that you love and that also works well with your lightweight skincare solution.

In this context, we highly recommend our company’s Perfume Experience Box. It contains 12 x Eau de Parfum Intense together paper smelling strips, allowing you to experiment with different niche perfume notes in the comfort of your own home over time, when the temperatures are elevated and on the paper strip before you apply it to your skin. The Box contains enough perfume to wear and live with each individual perfume for approx 2 weeks.

This is much better than buying a perfume in a rush, as you pass through the Duty Free at the airport only to find that you don’t enjoy it in the heat of your holiday destination.

Enjoy the combo of your lightweight skin care and a natural niche perfume to go with it.

Does Perfume Smell Different On Everyone?

Have you ever noticed that the same perfume can smell different on different people?

Maybe you tried a perfume that you loved on a friend, but when you wore it yourself, it didn’t smell the same. Or, … maybe you noticed that your favourite perfume seems to smell different from one day to the next or when you are away on holiday.

What have you experienced? Does perfume smell different on everyone and have your favourites changed over time?

In this article we present probable reasons and offer a few solutions.

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Bergamot Basil Patchouli Man Fresh Does Perfume Smell Different On Everyone

Why Does Perfume Smell Different On Everyone?

There are numerous reasons why perfume may smell different on another person and on you.

Here are some of the most common factors:

  • Skin type: The pH balance of your skin can affect how a perfume smells. For example, people with dry skin tend to smell perfumes more strongly than people with oily skin.
  • Body chemistry and skin micro-flora: The chemicals in your body and the skin micro-flora can also interact with the material in a perfume, creating different scent profiles. This is why some people find that certain perfumes make them smell “like themselves” while others don’t.
  • Diet: What you eat can also affect how a perfume smells on you. For example, eating spicy foods can make your skin more acidic, which can change the way a perfume smells. Equally, some food ingredients affect the scent of your skin, e.g. garlic and spices.
  • Hormones: Your hormone levels can also affect how a perfume smells on you. For example, women’s perfumes may smell different during different phases of their menstrual cycle.
  • Environment: The environment you are in can also affect how a perfume smells. For example, perfume will smell different in a hot, humid environment than in a cold, dry environment.
  • Safety & Ethics: Today, it is no longer acceptable to use animal derived ingredients. Equally, a large variety of fragrance ingredients have been found to be skin irritants or sensitisers. Other ingredients are not bio-degradable. The fragrance industry and its governing body, IFRA, continuously research and review the ingredients used in perfume. This requires perfume houses to rework existing perfumes to comply with the most modern safety and environmental standards.
  • Cost: Perfume is a luxury good. Their marketing activities and retail outlets are expensive, creating cost pressures on manufacturers to stay commercially viable. This incentivises to reduce costs, which may lead to a reduction in the fragrance oil concentration in the perfume you love and have come to know well.
  • Naturals: natural perfume ingredients change from crop to crop and are more likely to react and change on your skin.

If you are wondering why your perfume smells different than it used to, it is likely due to one of these factors.

If you are not sure what is causing your perfume to smell differently, you can try experimenting to see what may be the cause. We encourage to discuss with your friends & family: Does Perfume Smell Different On Everyone? What is their experience? Have they perhaps found another reason why?

Different Approaches

Having said all of this, major prestige perfume brands like Chanel, Dior, Gucci, etc work very hard to ensure their perfumes smell the same on everyone because what is the point of buying Chanel No.5, if it doesn’t smell like Chanel No.5 on you.

Here at Pairfum London, we embrace a different approach: we develop our niche perfumes to smell different on everyone! This creates a personal perfume that is unique to you and an aura that impossible to copy. The compliments you receive will be uniquely you.

In other words, it creates a beautiful choice of perfume types for you:

  • fragrances from prestige brands, like Chanel No 5, for special occasions, e.g. the opera, and
  • a natural niche perfume, like Pairfum London, to allow the unique in you to flourish.

Tips From A Perfumer

Here are some fragrance tips to make your perfume smell its best on you:

  • Apply it to clean, dry skin. This will help the perfume to absorb evenly and last longer.
  • Apply it to pulse points. In these areas of your body, the blood vessels are closer to the skin, making your skin slightly warmer. This will help to amplify the scent of you perfume.
  • Avoid applying it to your clothes. Perfume can stain your clothes and equally hook into the fabrics to last longer but smell weaker.
  • Reapply it throughout the day. Your perfume will naturally fade over time and we advise that you re-apply it every few hours to keep it smelling fresh and true to its scent.

If you not happy with the way your perfume smells on you, you may want to try a different one.

There are the two different approaches we mentioned above and many different perfumes on the market, offering you a fantastic choice to experiment and find the one (or many) that you love and that smells great on you.

In this context, you should explore fragrances from olfactive families you have never tried before. Many perfume houses offer ‘Fragrance Libraries’ to introduce you to the types of notes that you may not immediately try when you are in a perfumery. Embrace and enjoy the motto: Who dares wins!

Here at Pairfum London, we offer the Perfume Experience Box, a fragrance library with 12 x Eau de Parfum Intense in combination with paper smelling strips. This allows you to really experience 12 x new perfumes in the comfort of your own, scent-neutral home and to live with & wear each perfume for approx 2 weeks.

Additional Questions

Here are some additional answers to frequently asked questions about perfume:

  • Q: Why can’t I smell my perfume after a while? A: This is a common phenomenon called olfactory fatigue. It happens when your nose gets used to a smell and stops detecting it as strongly. You may still be able to smell your perfume on other people, but you won’t be able to smell it on yourself as much.
  • Q: Why does my perfume smell stronger on some people than on others? A: This is usually due to skin type. People with dry skin tend to smell perfumes more strongly than people with oily skin.
  • Q: Why does my perfume smell different in different environments? A: The temperature and humidity of the environment can affect how a perfume smells. For example, perfume will smell different in a hot, humid environment than in a cold, dry environment.

How To Find A Strong Perfume?

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Spiced Rum Lime Guaiac Wood Man Strong Perfume

We are often asked the following questions about strong perfume:

  • How do I find a strong perfume?
  • Which one of yours is a strong perfume?
  • Does a strong perfume last longer?
  • How do I know if my perfume is strong?

In this post we explain what to look for when trying to find a strong fragrance.

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Scarlet Rhubarb Oakmoss Hat The Magic Of Strong Perfume

What Does Strong Mean In Fragrance?

As perfumers, we find that when consumers use the term ‘strong’ to describe a perfume, the frequently refer to one (or all) of the following:

  • the fragrance intensity itself, e.g. do you feel wonderfully fragranced after one single spray or do you need several sprays?
  • the longevity of the fragrance, i.e. for how long it lasts after it has been applied and under which conditions, e.g. in the heat of the Middle East or the European Winter. A fragrance might be strong initially but sadly not last.
  • its radiance: ‘Projection’ refers to depth or distance a perfume radiates to, i.e. can only somebody standing right next to you smell or do you fill the room with your fragrance when you enter.
  • Sillage is the wake or trail a fragrance leaves behind, i.e. is the fragrance gone as soon as you leave, or does it have a beautiful trail that lingers long after the wearer has left. You will probably remember this type of situation. Technically speaking, your fragrance has ‘sillage’ when even trace amounts are perceivable. A good example is vanilla where even the tiniest amount will be noticed.
  • perception: we frequently find that when somebody doesn’t like a perfume, they say “it is too strong”. A perfume that we love, typically can’t be strong enough.
  • familiarity: it can be that our noses have become trained to identify certain notes, e.g. we find it easy to identify lavender because our mother used to keep some in our wardrobes against moths. We all have certain perfume ingredients that we find easy to identify and that give us the impression that a fragrance is strong or perhaps even too strong.
  • ingredients: there are some ingredients which are very strong for some and not perceptible for others. A good example is musk: Some can’t smell it all, but others perceive it strongly. Consequently, a perfume containing musk can be both strong and weak, depending on who smells it.

It is not always easy to distinguish clearly between these, as there is some interdependence, e.g. a weak fragrance will struggle to project.

In other words, the next time somebody says “your perfume is strong”, try and find out ‘how’ it is too strong? You will enjoy hearing how your fragrance is perceived.

Finding A Strong Perfume?

Now with this in mind, how do you find a strong fragrance?

As perfumers, we have found the first 4 x from the list above to the be most important:

  1. Intensity: when you look for an intense perfume, there is no point looking at a fragrance with a low fragrance concentration, e.g. an Eau Fraiche, Eau de Cologne or Eau de Toilette. Instead, opt for an Eau de Parfum (ideally an Intense or Extreme version) or a Parfum. You will also have to apply it generously, as it doesn’t make sense to buy a strong perfume and then not applying enough.
  2. Longlasting: the trick to find a longlasting fragrance is to focus on fragrances that come across as ‘heavy’, ‘rich’, ‘woody’ or ‘oriental’. A light citrus cologne or aquatic marine notes will never be longlasting.
  3. Radiant & Sillage: finding the fragrance for you that has both ‘projection’ and a beautiful ‘sillage’ is a question of trialling and wearing a few.

How To Make My Perfume Strong?

Once you have found your strong perfume, how can you make it stronger on you? The trade-off for making your perfume stronger using the techniques we describe here, is that it won’t last as long.

  • Pulse Points: to make your perfume stronger, apply it to areas of your body that are warmer because the blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin, e.g. your pulse points.
  • Area: the bigger the area you apply your fragrance to, the stronger the perfume will be, as it will have a bigger surface area from which it can evaporate. If you want a strong fragrance, don’t just apply it to your pulse points but also your neck, décolletage, hair, arms and even your scarf and clothes (as long as you have tested that your perfume doesn’t discolour them).
  • Don’t cover it: one of the tricks to make a perfume last longer is to keep it covered with the clothes you wear. We are looking for the opposite, a strong perfume. Hence, to make your perfume strong apply to your exposed skin, e.g. the neck, bare arms & hands, … or your hair.
  • No oil: don’t apply your perfume to areas where you applied lotion or oil, as the oil will bind with your perfume and will hold it back. In other words, it will less strong.

There is one technique that we do not find makes a perfume stronger:

  • Layering: we see fragrance enthusiast recommending that you should layer different fragrances to make the overall perfume stronger. They obviously feel that it works. This is, however, easily explained because if you spray a perfume several times it becomes stronger, regardless of whether you spray the same or a different fragrances. In other words, it refers back to ‘intensity’ we explained above, i.e. your perfume get stronger the more you apply, … which is obvious. Equally, if you layer a strong perfume over a weak one, the overall fragrance becomes stronger but why not apply the strong perfume twice, as it will dominate the overall note anyway. In other words, there is nothing within the technique of layering that makes a perfume stronger.

Top 10 Things That Define A Niche Fragrance

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Cardamom Tonka White Oud Curls Define A Niche Fragrance

We are often asked: What is Niche Perfume? So, … we decided to share with you our Top 10 Things that define a niche fragrance.

If you are one of those people who have heard the terms Niche Perfume, Artisan Parfum, Indie Scent or Boutique Fragrance bandied about and wondered what they really mean, then you should read on.

You are not alone, as we receive emails regularly from people wanting to understand what we or others mean when they use these terms.

There are specific elements that define a niche fragrance and set it apart from the Mass Market Brands we are accustomed to from Couture Houses and Designer Labels.

Although, when you define a niche fragrance, these lines become sometimes blurred when large worldwide brands describe their offerings as ‘Niche’ or introduce ‘Private Collections’. The fact that a product is available at every Airport, in every retailer and on every High Street worldwide would by definition exclude it from being considered a Niche Creation.

We equally believe a Niche Fragrance House that is owned by a global corporation no longer qualifies as being Niche. The list is long of these small perfumery houses that were bought-out. Examples are Jo Malone, Creed, Frederic Malle, L’Artisan Parfumeur, … It is not easy to spot these ‘Niche Wannabees’.

So when looking for a genuine Niche or Artisan Fragrance, the list below will help you to separate the true Niche from the ‘Niche Wannabee’

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Sea Salt Sage Amber Man Muscular Define A Niche Fragrance

Well the following are our Top 10 Things that Define a Niche Fragrance:

  1. A Perfume House, founded by a Perfumer who’s wish is to create Unique Fragrances – like the original Fragrance Houses of Old
  2. An in-house Perfumer, that is unencumbered by the restrictions of mass consumerism, and is allowed to recreate the ‘artistry of the unique’ in luxury fragrances.
  3. Limited Availability – not on sale in every shop, store and airport worldwide.
  4. Art and Creativity – like Painters, Poets, Writers, Chefs, Wine Makers, Gardner’s, Designers, as the founder of PAIRFUM London Huib Maat said “Who would want to create a copy of the same thing again and again if they have the ability and creativity to create an original? – no true Artist would”
  5. The use of Natural, Unusual or Unique Perfumery ingredients and Accords, i.e. note combinations.
  6. Selective approach to Distribution – not available everywhere
  7. A different approach to PR & Marketing – where the best form of advertising is – through ‘Word of Mouth’ passed from one Fragrance Aficionado to another ( and with a little help from the right type of Magazine article)…
  8. With the attention to detail given to the creation of a Niche Perfume, it assures the wearer that the Perfume is of the highest quality.
  9. Something that is rare is always more precious – Clientele will seek out and love something different – because we were born unique – so why not celebrate it..
  10. Not owned by a global, multi-national Corporation or produced on a large scale factory floor but in small batches and independently owned.

Keep these in mind when shopping for Niche Fragrances.

Pairfum London’s in-house Perfumer Huib Maat created our collection of Natural Eau de Parfum Intense and we also introduced the Perfume Experience Box to try and sample these exquisite creations.

The idea was to celebrate happiness in all its forms, big or small.

Whether it is wearing your favourite Perfume, Dress, Shoes or singing in the shower…..

fragrances that cool you & your home: perfume, room fragrance and skin care (natural / organic)

Do something that makes you Happy and spreads it all around.

We have posted one of our favourite Poems before, but we know it is Perfect for the International Day of Happiness..

So here it is again:

Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realised
I’d passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realised its worth.
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don’t leave it undetected.
Let’s start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!
