What Are The Different Levels Of Perfume Concentration?

Introduction:

In this article our in-House perfumer answers the following questions:

  • What are the different levels of perfume oil concentration?
  • Why do you offer an Eau de Parfum Intense? What does it actually mean?
  • How much perfume is in an Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, Parfum, Eau de Cologne?

Perfume has been an essential part of human culture for centuries. From ancient civilizations to modern times, the art of perfumery has evolved, offering a wide array of fragrance concentrations to suit various preferences and occasions:

  • Parfum (Perfume Extract)
  • Extrait de Parfum
  • Attar
  • Eau de Parfum
  • Intense, Intensité or Extreme
  • Eau de Toilette
  • Eau de Cologne
  • Spritzer / Body Mist
  • Cologne / Aftershave
  • Eau Fraiche
  • Deodorant / Antiperspirant
  • Body Spray

Understanding these different levels of perfume concentration is crucial when selecting the right fragrance to match your personality, style and needs.

In this article, we will explain each of the various levels of fragrance, from the most concentrated to the lightest, exploring their characteristics, uses, popularity and offer advice from our perfumer.

Eau De Parfum Person Reflection Bergamot Basil Patchouli Man Excellent Levels of Perfume

Parfum (Perfume Extract)

At the pinnacle of fragrance concentration is Parfum, also known as Perfume Extract. It contains the highest concentration of aromatic compounds, typically ranging from 20% to 30%. As you can see, this still creates different Parfum levels and you should always enquire about the exact level of perfume oil within the parfum you are trying.

A Parfum is crafted with a large and complex blend of fragrance oils, absolutes, distillates and other fragrant substances, ensuring a long-lasting and most potent scent. Due to its richness, a small amount of Parfum may be expected to last for an entire day, making it an exquisite luxury for special occasions.

Given its intensity, Parfum is typically applied sparingly on pulse points, like the wrists, neck, and behind the ears. Consequently, don’t be surprised when the Parfum will be the most expensive type within the product range of a perfumery house due to the high concentration of fragrance oils.

Extrait de Parfum

Extrait de Parfum, or simply Extrait, is similar to Parfum in terms of fragrance concentration, often ranging from 15% to 25%. It is crafted using the same essential oils and aromatic compounds as Parfum, but it may have a slightly different composition. For some brands, Parfum and Extrait de Parfum mean the same, i.e. the same concentration.

As a more concentrated fragrance, compared with the levels we outline below, Extrait de Parfum provides a luxurious experience that can be expected to last throughout the day.

There is another reason why Pairfum and Extrait de Parfum last the longest. Unlike the types and levels we outline below, these two are typically oil based. The absence of alcohol reduces the initial lift of perfume when you apply a fragrance, which in turn allows the perfume to last longer. In this they are similar to Attars. All three offer a unique and intimate scent experience, where the scent evolves subtly over time with the wearer’s body heat and chemistry.

Parfums, Extrait de Parfums and Attars are typically sold in small bottles, and they are applied to the skin with a drop or two. As they are entirely oil based, they cannot be sprayed.

Perfumer’s Tip: the small bottle size makes them ideal for travelling by air.

Attar

Attars are a type of fragrance that was traditionally made by steam distillation of flowers, herbs and spices (a time consuming process). They are typically more concentrated than the types of perfume listed below, with an fragrance oil concentration of 15-30%. This is mixed with a base oil, e.g. sandalwood, jojoba, etc. As a consequence, attars are known for their long-lasting fragrance, and depending on the fragrance, can last for up to 24 hours, e.g. oud.

Attars have a long history in the Middle East and South Asia, and they are still popular in these regions today. Often they are used for religious and cultural purposes, and they are also enjoyed as personal fragrances.

Here is some additional information about attars:

  • The word “attar” comes from the Arabic word “itr,” which means “perfume”. Attars are also known as Ittar.
  • Traditionally, attars were often aged for several months or even years to improve their fragrance.
  • They can also be used to scent the air and they are sometimes added to food and drink.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

Eau de Parfum, often abbreviated as EDP, is a widely popular choice among perfume enthusiasts. It contains a lower concentration of aromatic compounds, typically ranging from 15% to 20%. EDP strikes a delicate balance between intensity and longevity, making it suitable for everyday wear and special occasions.

The fragrance of Eau de Parfum can last for several hours (they typically last for 4-6 hours), and it usually projects well without being overwhelming. Due to its moderate concentration, EDP is more accessible in terms of pricing compared to Parfum and Extrait de Parfum.

Intense, Intensité or Extreme

Intense variations of fragrances have become increasingly popular in recent years, driven by consumers in the USA and Arabic countries. They often feature a higher concentration of aromatic compounds than standard Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette, making them more robust and long-lasting. For example, our company’s Eau de Parfum Intense last typically 8-12 hours.

Intense versions provide a bolder olfactory experience, with deeper and richer notes that linger on the skin for an extended period.

An Eau de Parfum Intense or Extreme approach the concentration levels of a Parfum, Extrait de Parfum or Attar but with an alcohol base. They combine the freshness of an EDP with the longevity of a Parfum, Extrait or Attar.

When our customers ask “What is the strongest perfume?” and “Which type of perfume lasts the longest?”, the answer is always ‘Parfum’, ‘Extrait de Parfum’ and ‘Attar’ are the strongest and last the longest. However, the modern Eau de Parfums Intense come very close.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)

Eau de Toilette, or EDT, is a lighter version of a fragrance with a concentration ranging from 5% to 15%. As a result, EDT offers a more subtle and refreshing scent compared to its higher concentration counterparts. It is perfect for daytime use or warmer weather when a lighter fragrance is preferred.

EDTs are usually more affordable than EDPs or Parfums, making them a popular choice for everyday use or casual events. However, due to their lower concentration, they may need reapplication throughout the day to maintain the desired scent. They typically last for 2-4 hours.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)

Eau de Cologne, also known as EDC, is one of the oldest forms and levels of fragrance. It typically contains 2% to 4% aromatic compounds and is crafted with a blend of citrus, herbal, and floral notes. EDCs are incredibly refreshing and light, making them perfect for a quick pick-me-up or a post-shower splash. They typically last for 1-2 hours.

Originally, Eau de Cologne was intended as a tonic or aftershave, but today, it has evolved to become a gender-neutral fragrance option that can be worn by anyone.

Spritzer or Body Mist

Spritzers or Body Mists are one of the lightest levels of fragrance, containing a minimal concentration of aromatic compounds, typically around 1% to 3%. They are typically infused in water, along with a touch of alcohol, creating a gentle and refreshing fragrance experience.

Spritzers are popular for a quick and subtle fragrance touch-up during the day. They are a favourite for those who prefer a subtle fragrance or have a sensitivity to stronger scents.

In hot climates, e.g. the Middle East and Mediterranean, they are also commonly applied after a bath or shower to cool down.

After Shave

After Shave is a product primarily intended for men, used post-shaving to soothe the skin and reduce irritation caused by shaving. Most after shaves contain only 1 – 3 % of fragrance, providing a pleasant scent for a short time, that complements the cologne or perfume a man chooses to wear.

Cologne

The term is often used interchangeably with “Eau de Cologne”. However, in the USA “cologne” usually refers to a men’s after shave.

On other occasions, it refers to a perfume accord, in other words, the cologne note.

We agree, this is confusing.

Eau Fraiche

Eau Fraiche is the lightest form of fragrance, with an aromatic compound concentration of only 1% to 3%.

It is composed of mostly water and a small amount of essential oils or aromatic substances, providing a subtle and fleeting scent. Eau Fraiche is perfect for those who prefer a delicate fragrance touch or live in hot and humid climates.

An Eau Fraiche is not designed to last long.

Deodorant and Antiperspirant

Deodorants and antiperspirants are not technically perfumes but are essential products used to control body odour and perspiration.

Deodorants neutralize odour-causing bacteria, while antiperspirants reduce sweat production. Many deodorants and antiperspirants come in scented versions, offering a light fragrance that complements personal hygiene. The fragrance concentration is rarely above 1%.

Body Spray

Body sprays, often mistaken for perfumes, are more closely related to body mists and spritzers. They have a very low concentration of aromatic compounds and are designed for a refreshing scent that can be sprayed all over the body.

Body sprays are popular among younger consumers due to their affordability and playful scents.

Our Perfumer’s Advice On The Levels of Perfume

When selecting from the different parfum levels, it is important to consider your personal preferences and needs.

If you want a strong, long-lasting fragrance, then parfum or eau de parfum is a good choice. If you prefer a lighter, more refreshing fragrance, then an eau de toilette or eau de cologne is a better option. If you are looking for a product that will prevent or mask body odour, then a deodorant or body spray is the best choice.

No matter what type or level of fragrance you choose, be sure to apply it sparingly. Too much perfume can be overpowering and irritating to the skin.

A good rule of thumb is to apply perfume to pulse points, such as the neck, wrists, and behind the ears. This will help the fragrance to diffuse evenly beautifully. If you would like it to last longer, then apply it to areas that are covered, e.g. the arms, chest, you back.

With so many different types and levels of perfume available, there will be one that is perfect for you. So, … take some time to explore your options and find a fragrance that you love.

Experiment

When considering the different levels of perfume, we encourage you to experiment with perfume:

  • wear different intensities of the same fragrance, e.g. ask a store to apply and Eau de Toilette on one of your arms and a Parfum to the other.
  • treat yourself to a Niche Perfume instead of sticking with the usual Fashion Designer Brands
  • try a Natural Perfume, you might be surprised how the perfume adjust to you personally.
  • Buy a Fragrance Library to sample many different fragrances in your own time, your own scent-neutral environment at home and over time. Take for example, our company’s Perfume Experience Box, it contains 12 x Eau de Parfum Intense and each tester vial contains enough perfume for 2 x weeks of daily wear.

Additional Information

  • The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has established standards for the concentration of levels of pure fragrance oils in perfumes. These standards are used by perfume manufacturers around the world.
  • IFRA also regulates the levels of fragrance oils and use of certain ingredients in perfumes. This ensures the safety of perfumes for everyone.
  • The longevity of a perfume depends on a number of factors, including the concentration of perfume oils, the type of skin (e.g. oily or dry), whether you are active, whether the skin area is exposed and/or the climate & wind.
  • We recommend that you store your perfumes in a cool, dark and dry place to prolong their lifespan. There is no difference in the lifespan between the different levels of perfume.

Conclusion

The world of perfumery offers a diverse range of fragrance concentrations to cater to various preferences and occasions. From the opulence of Parfum to the lightness of Eau Fraiche, each level of perfume provides a unique olfactory experience.

Understanding these different levels of perfume oil concentrations allows you to choose the perfect fragrance that complements your style, personality, and needs, whether it’s for everyday wear, special events, or simply to elevate your overall sense of well-being through the power of fragrance.

The history of bloom perfume dates back to ancient civilisations like Egypt and Greece, where people used floral scents in oils and balms for personal and religious use. As the art of perfumery advanced, bloom perfumes became popular in Europe, especially during the 18th century, when floral perfumes were associated with royalty.

Types of Bloom Perfume

Bloom perfumes come in a variety of types, each offering a unique experience depending on the flower and its note. Some of the most popular types include:

Single Flower Perfumes

Single flower perfumes focus on one specific flower, such as jasmine, rose, or iris. These floral fragrances highlight the natural beauty of a single bloom. For instance, the eau de parfum version of a rose scent offers a more intense and long-lasting fragrance than an eau de toilette.

Mixed Floral Blends

Mixed floral blends combine multiple flowers, creating complex bouquets that bring together different notes. These blends, including patchouli and sandalwood, offer a balance of musk and sweetness. An example of a harmonious blend is Gucci Bloom, which combines jasmine with other floral elements to produce a refined and enchanting scent.

Seasonal Bloom Perfumes

Seasonal bloom perfumes, like Eternal Sunshine, reflect the unique smell of flowers that bloom in specific seasons. For spring, perfumes may feature tulips and lilies, while summer blends could include gardenias and sunflowers.

Exotic Floral Perfumes

Exotic floral perfumes use rare flowers from distant regions. For instance, jasmine and orchids are combined in exotic bloom perfumes to transport you to faraway places.

Extraction Methods for Bloom Aromas

Capturing the essence of flowers in perfumes requires specific extraction techniques:

Steam Distillation

Steam distillation is commonly used for extracting oils from flowers like jasmine and rose, allowing perfumers to create high-quality perfumes with long-lasting scents.

Solvent Extraction

Solvent extraction is used for delicate flowers that may not withstand steam distillation. This method allows for the creation of concentrated items with rich, pure floral notes.

Enfleurage

This traditional technique is perfect for capturing delicate floral notes that may be lost in other methods. While less common today, enfleurage remains a valuable part of high-quality bloom perfume production.

Iconic Bloom Perfumes

Among the most iconic bloom perfumes is Gucci Bloom, known for its captivating floral composition featuring jasmine and tuberose. This perfume has become a signature scent for many women, thanks to its luxurious and refined bouquet.

The History of Flower Perfume

The history of floral perfume is intertwined with human culture and traditions. In ancient Egypt, floral oils were used in religious rituals and personal adornment. Damascena rose was especially valued for its soft, sweet fragrance, and jasmine was often used in both ceremonial and daily perfumes. Cleopatra herself was said to use floral scents to enhance her allure.

Moving into the ancient Greek and Roman periods, flowers such as violet and rose were associated with gods and goddesses. Floral notes were incorporated into perfumery to symbolise love, beauty, and femininity. During the Renaissance, perfumery flourished in Italy and France, giving rise to more sophisticated extraction techniques for essential oils, such as enfleurage and distillation, allowing floral perfumes to evolve into luxurious personal adornments for the wealthy.

Today, the tradition of creating floral perfumes remains strong. Iconic scents continue to emerge, from classics rooted in Damascena rose to modern compositions featuring exotic white flower, gardenia, and patchouli. These fragrances are cherished for their timeless appeal, offering everything from fresh daytime floral scents to deep, sensual womens perfume.

Flower perfumes can be categorised based on the type of flowers used, each bringing its own floral notes and distinct aroma to the blend. Below are some of the most iconic floral perfumes and the flowers that inspire them:

Damascena Rose

One of the most cherished flowers in perfumery, the damascena rose is known for its deep, velvety floral fragrance. Rose fragrances are often associated with romance and elegance, making them a timeless choice for those seeking a feminine fragrance.

Jasmine

With its intoxicating sweetness, jasmine is synonymous with sensuality. Often paired with other flowers, it adds richness and complexity to floral perfumes. Its opulent scent is perfect for evening wear and special occasions.

Pink Pepper and Patchouli

For those who enjoy a bit of spice, pink pepper adds a bright, peppery kick to floral perfumes, while patchouli introduces a warm, earthy base that balances the lightness of floral notes with a rich, woody element.

Uses of Flower Perfumes

Flower perfumes serve a variety of purposes beyond personal adornment. They’re integral to the creation of candles, home fragrances, and body products. Their versatility makes them suitable for:

  1. Personal Fragrance – Whether you’re seeking a light daytime floral fragrance or a bold evening perfume, floral perfumes cater to every occasion.
  2. Aromatherapy – Essential oils extracted from flowers like lavender and rose are often used for relaxation, stress relief, and emotional balance.
  3. Home Fragrance – Floral scents are commonly used in home products like candles and diffusers, infusing living spaces with fresh, calming aromas.

Methods of Flower Perfume Extraction

Extracting the delicate floral fragrance from flowers is a meticulous process, with several methods used to ensure the purest scent is captured. Here are some of the most common techniques:

Distillation

Distillation involves steaming the flowers to release their oils. Jasmine and damascena rose are commonly distilled to create concentrated, long-lasting oils used in perfumes.

Solvent Extraction

Solvent extraction uses chemical solvents to dissolve the flower oils. This method is used to create more complex perfumes, including those featuring gardenia and other delicate floral notes.

Enfleurage

A traditional method, enfleurage uses fat to absorb the oils from flowers like jasmine and rose. This method, though time-consuming, captures the most delicate floral scents.

Cedar Perfume

Embrace Nature’s Warmth with Cedar Perfume

Cedar perfume is a celebration of fragrance that brings the warmth of the forest into our daily lives. The warm, woody aroma of cedarwood evokes a deep connection with nature, making it an enduring favourite in perfumery. Its use in modern and ancient practices showcases its versatility as both a base note and a primary scent in various fragrance formulations. From fragrance oils to luxury perfumes, cedar continues to captivate us with its timeless charm.

The Timeless Appeal of Cedar Perfume

For centuries, cedarwood has been treasured in perfumery for its comforting yet invigorating scent. Ancient civilisations such as the Egyptians used cedarwood oil not only for its fragrance but also in mummification rituals, believing it to have protective and preservative qualities. Romans and Greeks burned cedar wood as incense and used its rich aroma in their baths, associating it with purity and luxury.

Today, cedar continues to be a beloved ingredient in perfumes due to its ability to serve as a woody base note that enhances a fragrance’s lasting impression. Perfumes often contain hints of black pepper, nutmeg, grapefruit, and amber, blending seamlessly with cedarwood to create exquisite fragrances that suit both men and women. This complex combination of woody notes and other ingredients makes cedar perfumes versatile and universally appealing.

Eau de Parfum Person Reflection Grapefruit Pepper Black Cedar Perfume

Exploring Different Types of Cedar Used in Perfumes

Understanding the different types of cedar enhances our appreciation of its unique notes in perfumes. Each species of cedar brings a distinct aroma, adding to the versatility and depth of cedar perfumes.

  • Atlas Cedar: With a woody and slightly spicy aroma, Atlas cedar from North Africa is rich and resinous, providing an intense base note for long-lasting perfumes. This cedar gives off hints of spice, making it a favourite for those who enjoy deeper, more robust fragrances.
  • Virginia Cedar: Native to North America, Virginia cedar delivers a smoother, slightly sweeter fragrance. Its warmth and balsamic undertones make it suitable for a wide range of womens fragrance as well as men’s colognes. It adds balance to fragrances with other notes like sandalwood and musk.
  • Himalayan Cedar: This species offers an earthy, camphorous scent, often used in wellness products and more tranquil perfumes. The essential oils extracted from Himalayan cedar are known for their calming qualities, adding a grounding, peaceful note to the fragrance.
  • Lebanon Cedar: Historically significant, Lebanon cedar provides a deep, balanced fragrance with a touch of spice. This rich wood is often found in high-end, luxury perfumes, symbolising elegance and sophistication.

Practical Applications of Cedar Perfume

Cedar perfume is not just for personal use. Its calming, woody scent enhances various aspects of life, making it a popular choice in many related products that go beyond the traditional perfume bottle.

  • Personal Fragrance: Cedar perfume is a staple in both men’s and womens fragrance collections. Cedar’s woody notes blend well with florals, citrus, and musk, making it suitable for day-to-day use or special occasions. The combination of cedar with vanilla, vetiver, and leather provides a sophisticated, luxurious feel to the perfume, leaving a lasting impression.
  • Home Fragrance: The home fragrance industry heavily incorporates cedar into products like candles, diffusers, and wax melts. These products create a cosy, inviting atmosphere in any room. The warmth and richness of cedar give a feeling of relaxation and comfort, while its grounding nature makes spaces feel more serene.
  • Skincare Products: Cedarwood’s natural properties make it a popular ingredient in skincare. Cedarwood oil is used in lotions, creams, and balms for its soothing effects on the skin, while its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it ideal for calming irritated or dry skin. It’s also a beneficial addition to soap products.
  • Aromatherapy: Cedar’s calming and grounding effects are valued in aromatherapy. Used in steam distillation or diffused through essential oil blends, cedar helps reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of peace and relaxation. Blended with sandalwood or musk, it creates a deeply meditative fragrance, ideal for unwinding.
  • Hair Care: Cedarwood oil is commonly used in shampoos and conditioners, providing a natural fragrance that lingers in the hair. Additionally, it’s believed to support scalp health and promote hair growth.
    Cedar Perfume Cone

    Methods of Cedar Fragrance Extraction

The pure essence of cedarwood is captured through various extraction methods, each designed to retain its natural scent and quality.

    • Steam Distillation: The most widely used technique for extracting cedarwood oil, steam distillation involves passing steam through the wood, releasing the aromatic compounds. The resulting oil is separated and used in perfumes and other scented products. This method preserves the wood’s inherent warmth and woody character.
    • CO2 Extraction: This modern technique uses carbon dioxide under high pressure to extract the oil, resulting in an aroma closer to the natural scent of cedar. CO2 extraction is preferred for premium perfumes as it maintains the purity of cedarwood without the use of alcohol or other solvents.
    • Cold Pressing: Though more common in the extraction of citrus oils, cold pressing can occasionally be applied to cedar wood. This method involves mechanically pressing the wood to extract the oil, though it is less common for woody notes like cedar.

    Cedar Perfume and Sustainable Sourcing

Cedar trees, particularly in regions such as the Atlas Mountains and the Himalayas, play a significant role in sustaining local ecosystems. Perfumers are increasingly mindful of sourcing cedarwood in ways that support environmental conservation, ensuring that these precious trees continue to thrive. By choosing ethically sourced cedar oils, the perfume industry ensures the long-term availability of this vital ingredient while reducing its ecological footprint.

Whether you are a long-time fan or new to the world of peony perfumes, we invite you to explore these fragrances that are as enduring as they are beautiful.

The Enchanting History of Peony Perfume

Peony perfume boasts a rich and storied past that dates back to ancient times. Known for its voluminous, soft petals and gentle aroma, the peony has been a symbol of wealth and nobility across various cultures. In Eastern traditions, particularly in China, the peony has been celebrated as the ‘king of the flowers’, embodying romance and prosperity. It was in these blooming gardens that the first idea to capture the delicate fragrance of peonies in a perfume began.

As Europe entered the Renaissance period, fascination with botanical gardens and exotic flowers grew. This led to the inclusion of peony in various cosmetic preparations and eventually as a core component in perfumery. The flower’s ability to impart a fresh, floral fragrance made it a favourite among perfumers crafting scents for the elite of society. Over the centuries, the essence of peony has been a constant feature in perfumes, appreciated for its light, airy qualities that evoke feelings of spring and renewal.

The Peony Flower: More Than Just a Pretty Scent

While we often focus on its fragrance, the peony flower itself is a marvel of nature. Known for its large blooms and lush petals, the peony is a favourite in gardens and floral arrangements. Peonies typically flower in late spring to early summer, creating an exotic display of colour and beauty.

Interestingly, peonies are not just ornamental. In some cultures, peony petals are used in cooking, adding a subtle floral note to teas, salads, and even cookies. The roots of certain peony species have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. However, it’s important to note that not all peonies are edible, and one should always seek expert advice before consuming any part of the plant.

The Art of Extracting Peony for Perfume

Extracting the delicate fragrance of peony for perfume is an intricate process that demands both precision and patience. The most common method used is solvent extraction, a technique that gently coaxes out the aromatic compounds without damaging the fragile petals. This process begins with placing the peony petals in a large vessel where they are mixed with a solvent. Over time, the solvent absorbs the natural oils and aroma of the peonies, resulting in what is known as concrete—a waxy substance rich in fragrant oils.

The concrete then undergoes a second process called alcohol extraction. During this stage, ethanol is used to separate the aromatic oils from the waxy substances. What remains after the alcohol evaporation is called an “absolute” – the purest form of the flower’s fragrance. Peony absolute is highly valued in perfumery for its depth and intensity, offering a true essence of the flower that is both lush and enduring.

Types of Peony Perfume: Exploring Varieties

When it comes to peony perfumes, there is a stunning variety to explore. Each type offers a unique take on the peony’s signature aroma, influenced by the other notes it is blended with. One popular variant is the solo peony perfume, which focuses on showcasing the pure and simple beauty of the peony scent. This type is perfect for those who are drawn to clean and uncomplicated fragrances.

Another beloved type is the rose and peony blend, which combines both flowers’ sweet and elegant fragrances. This combination tends to produce a rich, romantic perfume that’s perfect for special occasions. Then there are more complex blends, where peony is mixed with unexpected scents like pink pepper or amber. These perfumes are adventurous and often appeal to those who prefer modern, sophisticated fragrances that stand out from the crowd.

Each variant of peony perfume brings its own charm and character, allowing us to appreciate this delightful flower in numerous olfactory forms. Whether you lean towards the simplicity of pure peony or the intrigue of a blended aroma, there’s a peony perfume to suit every preference.

Peony in Perfumery: A Floral Note Par Excellence

In the world of perfumery, peony is considered a floral note par excellence. Its soft, romantic scent adds a touch of femininity and sophistication to any fragrance composition. Perfumers often use peony as a heart note, where it forms the core of the fragrance, surrounded by complementary top and base notes.

Peony blends beautifully with other floral notes like jasmine and damask roses, creating lush, garden-inspired fragrances. It also pairs well with fruity notes, such as the juicy bite of apple or the tartness of berries, resulting in fresh, youthful scents perfect for early summer. For more complex fragrances, peony can be combined with deeper notes like musk or vanilla, adding depth and warmth to the composition.

Iconic Peony Perfumes and Their Timeless Appeal

Peony perfumes have stood the test of time, capturing hearts with their light and enchanting floral aroma. Among the iconic peony perfumes, some have become particularly celebrated for their sophisticated compositions and timeless charm. These perfumes blend peony with complementary notes that accentuate its natural beauty without overpowering it.

For instance, some iconic fragrances might pair peony with softer woody notes, adding a subtle strength and depth to the perfume. Others might incorporate citrus or violet notes, bringing a fresh, vibrant twist to the floral profile.

Each iconic peony perfume offers a unique narrative — a testament to the versatility and enduring popularity of the peony as a key fragrance note. These perfumes are cherished not only for their lovely scent but also for the way they evoke emotions and memories, making them timeless staples in the collections of many fragrance enthusiasts.

    Iconic fragrances include:

    • Dior Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet
    • Jo Malone London Peony & Blush Suede

The Versatility of Peony in Fragrance Products

Peony’s captivating fragrance isn’t limited to traditional perfumes. Its versatility allows it to shine in various fragrance products, catering to different preferences and lifestyles. For those who enjoy scenting their homes, peony-scented candles and reed diffusers are popular choices. These products fill living spaces with the soft, floral aroma of peony, creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.

Wax melts infused with peony fragrance oil offer another way to enjoy this beautiful scent. They provide a flameless alternative to candles, perfect for those concerned about pets or small children. For a more subtle approach, peony-scented sachets can be tucked into drawers or closets, imparting a gentle floral fragrance to linens and clothing.

Peony Perfume: A Symbol of Femininity and Beauty

Peony perfume has long been associated with love, femininity and beauty. Its soft, romantic scent embodies the essence of womanhood, making it a popular choice for those seeking a fragrance that celebrates their feminine side. The delicate yet complex nature of peony scent mirrors the multifaceted nature of a modern woman – soft yet strong, delicate yet resilient.

Many perfume houses have created fragrances that capture this essence of femininity through peony. These perfumes often incorporate notes like soft blush suede or light musk to enhance the feminine appeal. The result is a collection of scents that not only smell beautiful but also make the wearer feel confident and empowered.

    Sustainability in Peony Perfume Production

As consumers become more environmentally conscious, the perfume industry is adapting to meet these new demands. Many perfume houses are now focusing on sustainable practices in their peony perfume production. This includes using ethically sourced ingredients, implementing eco-friendly extraction methods, and creating vegan formulations.

Some companies are even exploring ways to use the entire peony plant in their production process, minimising waste. For example, parts of the plant that aren’t used in fragrance production might be composted or used in other products. This holistic approach not only benefits the environment but also adds value for customers who prioritise sustainability in their purchases.

    Choosing the Perfect Peony Perfume

With so many peony perfumes available, choosing the right one can seem daunting. Here are some tips to help you find your perfect peony scent:

    • Consider the occasion: Light, fresh peony scents are great for daytime wear, while deeper, more complex peony fragrances suit evening events.
    • Think about your personal style: Do you prefer simple, clean scents or more layered, sophisticated fragrances?
    • Test before you buy: Perfumes can smell different on each person due to individual body chemistry. Always try a sample on your skin before making a purchase.
    • Read the fragrance notes: Look for complementary notes that you enjoy, such as vanilla, amber, or violet.
    • Consider the product type: Decide whether you want a traditional perfume, a body spray, or a home fragrance product.

Remember, the best perfume is one that makes you feel confident and beautiful when you wear it.

    Happy Mother’s Day Wishes

With Mother’s Day fast approaching we want to ‘Thank’ the Wonderful Women in our lives and to tell our ‘Mothers’ how much we Love and appreciate them.

Unlike previous years where everywhere we looked there were reminders of how we should treat our Mothers on this special day.

Just as in years gone by, we here at PAIRFUM started to ask ourselves and others, “What do Mother’s really want for Mother’s Day”, we mean really, really want! Is it more than just Happy Mother’s Day Wishes?

The answer was simply and universal, no matter who we asked or where they lived, … they want to ‘Meet, Hug & Kiss’ their Children.

Such simple things that we have all taken for granted, prior to the pandemic and the necessary lockdowns.

In previous years we had also posed the question “What do Mothers want for Mothers Day”? and a plethora of wonderful suggestions ranging from ‘a two week all expenses paid Holiday in Bali’, ‘a Weekend at an exclusive Spa’, to ‘a week Skiing at a top resort of their choice’, sounded idyllic, and to be honest they still do, … perhaps even more so in a time of restricted travel.

However then as now. when we started to come back down to earth and realised that most children, be they 2, 22 or 82, do not have that sort of money in their Piggy Bank.

We also came to the realisation that we never ask our Mother’s what they want. Now, … as all of us know, our Mothers are very good at telling us what they want, but it is normally for our benefit not theirs.

I am sure there are the few exceptions to the rule, but generally our Mums do not tell us what they would like as a gift on Mother’s Day.

    Meet, Hug & Kiss

This year was, however, for so many Mothers worldwide, the exception:

They knew exactly what they wanted, they wanted to be able to Meet, Hug and Kiss their Children In young families or where a child still lives at home, this is not a problem, … but in so many families where the young have flown the nest, this is impossible.

To be able to meet-up or visit was the number one wish. A Happy Mother’s Day Wishes & Card are not substitute.

So on one hand, we have Mums who cannot meet with their Children, and on the other hand, with Schools closed, we have Mums that have had even less time for themselves, …

As in previous years the answers we realised do depended on the age range of the children:

    • Mothers of young children would dearly love ‘Time for Themselves’,
    • Mothers of teenagers would like a little more help at home in combination with the phrase “whatever” to have the Cambridge Dictionary meaning [‘Whatever- pronoun, determiner meaning ANYTHING or EVERYTHING], as in “Anything I can do to help you Mum”, or “I really appreciate everything you do for me Mum”.

Another recurring wish was for a long lazy ‘Morning in Bed’, a lie-in followed by a long luxurious soak in the bath and the pleasure to take as much time as you like to choose what to wear and to do your make-up, or not, as the case may be.

‘Gift Giving’ was another interesting topic of discussion which was also related to the age of the children:

    • Mums of younger children would love to receive something made for them,
    • Mums of teenage children would really appreciate something done for them: Breakfast in Bed (after a long lie in and which would include leaving the kitchen in perfect condition afterwards, even if it was not that way beforehand), …

Survey of Mums for Mother’s Day

A poll by Mumsnet revealed that 85% of mums would actually like more than an hour of ‘me-time’ on the day. The same reply we got from Mothers of young and not so young Children.

Sadly, when they inquired how Mother’s Day was last year for their Mothers, their survey found that most mums didn’t get their wish, as three quarters didn’t even get a full hour of time to themselves.

Just like the answers we received in our much smaller poll, ‘lie-ins’ were also top of the Mother’s Day wish-list with 92% hoping they would get some extra ‘shut-eye’. However, the response from the Mothers polled said that they were left disappointed about that too, as over half (58%) of mums were up before 8am.

They also discovered that ‘breakfast in bed’ was not a given, as 53% of mums said they had to make it for themselves last year, despite hoping or hinting that their partner or children would do it for them.

If you think that this was bad, it gets much worse, as not all Mums got the day off from their normal domestic chores.

When questioned which household tasks they had carried out on Mother’s Day last year, 62% said they had done some cooking, 58% did the washing, almost half (49%) did cleaning and 11% took the bins out (the ‘bins out’, this should really be the last straw).

As with our questionnaire, when it came to ‘Gift Giving’, something homemade or personal tops the wish-list, with 37% of mums saying they would love something made by their children and almost a fifth (18%) saying they would like something personalised, like a mug or keyring with their kids’ photo or footprint.

Unlike our small survey, where no-one admitted to this fact, Mumsnet revealed that despite it being their day, only two thirds of mums actually admitted to enjoying Mother’s Day. Maybe our Mums just did not have the heart to say so.

We fully agree with the findings of Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts: “There is quite a lot of pressure on mothers to be selfless, and it can be difficult for them to ask for what they want, especially if it’s for their early-rising children to go away and take their burnt toast with them.”

This is especially true, when you see, how well meaning it was, how long it was in the planning and how excited they were to bring it in and present it to you. So,… maybe in the future, when you look back at all those Mother’s Day Mornings, you will not remember the tiredness you felt, or the tray with half of the Tea or Coffee floating in it, but remember the look of concentration on the face that has just managed to open the door, with or without help, and the inevitable question of “Do you like it”? What Mother could not say truthfully “This is the best half filled, luck warm cup of dishwater I have had since last year!”

Now,… there may be exceptions to the rule, as I mentioned earlier, but as all wonderful Mothers know the truth is sometimes best kept to ourselves or stored away for another time.

Having said that, we do not mean it as a ‘Get out of Jail card’ for Fathers, Partners or Children to not show this wonderful person in your life how much they mean to you.

We do think that from the responses that we got, that on this day at least, you not only do something special for your Mum, but you also don’t expect her to do the usual things she normally does for you every day.

So,… if your Mother wants some free time to herself, then this is the ‘Time’ to start planning how to give her just that little bit extra on top of all the Happy Mother’s Day wishes, cards and cups of tea.

It really is amazing how we value the simple things in life when they are in short supply.

The one recurring theme is, that Mothers all over the world never seem to have enough time, and least of all ‘Free Time to Themselves’.

So go on,… and on this Mother’s Day, ask your Mum: “What do you want, really, really want?” The answer may surprise you.

With this in mind, we would like you to tell us what the answer was that you received in your Mum’s reply and how you went about fulfilling your Mother her wish.

    For All Those Times!

For all those times when you picked me up.
When you sent me off and you wished me Luck.
You tied my laces and wiped my nose.
Made my lunch and corrected my prose.

Dropped me off at school and on final bell call.
You were standing waiting by the school yard wall.
For the times I got it wrong, but was sure I was right.
When I was very ill and you sat up all night.

For the times we fought and I was leaving home.
I knew you would be Sorry, as you would be all alone.
You asked “Where I was going”, I said “I did not know”.
So you suggested delaying my departure, until I was 10 or so.

When I first went away all on my own,
but it was all OK, knowing you were waiting at home.
When I had my first crush, and grew taller than you.
You were stern, forgiving, loyal and true.

For the times you needed something, but put me first instead.
To the day I realised I would never have a better friend.
For all those times and many many more..
I want to say “Thank You, I love You, Amore”.

    A Mother’s Love

    A Mother’s love is something
    that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
    and of sacrifice and pain.

    It is endless and unselfish
    and enduring come what may
    For nothing can destroy it
    or take that love away.

    It is patient and forgiving
    when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking.

    It believes beyond believing
    when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
    of the rarest, brightest gems.

    It is far beyond defining,
    it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
    like the mysteries of creation.

    A many splendored miracle
    man cannot understand
    And another wondrous evidence
    of God’s tender guiding hand.

    To My Mother

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,

The angels, whispering to one another,

Can find, among their burning terms of love,

None so devotional as that of “Mother,”

Therefore by that dear name I long have called you —

You who are more than mother unto me,

And fill my heart of hearts, where Death installed you

In setting my Virginia’s spirit free.

My mother — my own mother, who died early,

Was but the mother of myself; but you

Are mother to the one I loved so dearly,

And thus are dearer than the mother I knew

By that infinity with which my wife

Was dearer to my soul than its soul-life.

    Mother O’ Mine

If I were hanged on the highest hill,

    Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!

I know whose love would follow me still,

If I were drowned in the deepest sea,

    Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!

I know whose tears would come down to me,

Buy Perfume Online? 10 x Reasons Why You Should.

Have you already considered whether to buy perfume online? How do you buy your perfume at the moment? Are you happy with the way you buy perfume?

The internet has revolutionised the way we shop, not just for fragrance, making it more convenient and accessible than ever before.

Here are some advantages of buying perfume online:

    1. Unlimited Choice: Buying perfume online gives you access to unlimited choice. You can purchase directly from any retailer, country or Niche Perfumery House worldwide, without being restricted to what has been pre-selected for you by the perfume shop. In the words of Shakespeare: “The World is Your Oyster.”
    2. Maximum 3 Fragrances: When shopping in a physical store, the receptors in your nose become saturated after smelling three to four perfumes, making it difficult to fully appreciate the fragrance. Not only this, but you will notice a cloud of scent as you enter the perfumery department. This will already taint and block your receptors to ‘cloud your judgement’. Our noses are designed to detect differences. In other words, you will smell those notes less that you have already picked up unconsciously in the cloud. How often have you come home and puzzled why the perfume smells different from what you remember? By shopping online and discovering the perfumes at home, you can avoid saturation and give your nose time to naturally cleanse itself before moving on to the next scent.
    3. Test on Your Skin: Fragrances can smell different on each person, which is why it’s important to test them on your own skin rather than just a paper card. By purchasing perfume online, you can test it in your own time and environment, ensuring that you are making an informed purchase.
    4. Allow Time: Perfumes unfold and develop over time, and it can be challenging to fully appreciate them while browsing through a store. By purchasing perfume online, you can take your time and experience the fragrance’s top, heart, and back notes in your own time.
    5. Home Environment: Perfumes can smell differently in your own home environment than in a store, as the scent of your surroundings mingles with the fragrance to create your unique signature perfume. This effect is difficult to predict when standing in a store aisle.
    6. Peace and Quiet: Our noses need time, peace and quiet to discover and appreciate a fragrance. When trialling a fragrance at home, you can experience the perfume without the distractions of a bustling department store.
    7. Free Returns: Reputable retailers who sell perfume online offer free returns, so you can make a purchase with confidence, knowing that you can return it if it’s not the right fit for you.

Trend: Skinification of Perfume, Hair, Nail, Hand Care and Make-up.

    Introduction

Skinification is a trend that has emerged in recent years in the beauty and wellness industry. It is based on the idea that the same principles and ingredients that are effective for skin care should be applied to other areas of the body, including hair, nails, make-up, hands and overall well-being.

In this article, we will discuss what skinification is, how it differs from traditional beauty routines, and the products and routines that are used for different areas of the body.

    What is Skinification?

Skinification is a concept that has two facettes or meanings:

    1. It refers to the hybrid application of skin & face care ingredients, techniques and beauty routines to other areas of the body and products, such as hair, scalp, make-up, nails, hands, body and perfume. Essentially, it is increasing the skin care properties of these products.
    2. A further idea behind it is that the skin is a reflection of our internal health and well-being, and that by taking care of our overall health, we can improve the appearance and health of our skin, hair, nails, hands and body. This is about a holistic approach to skin care and overall well-being: beauty from the inside out.

While the pandemic emphasized the importance of cleansing, consumers are now looking beyond hygiene when it comes to their personal care needs.

The first facette of this trend is becoming increasingly popular among consumers who seek personal care ingredients that are trending and trusted in skin care applications, such as vitamins, to deliver the same benefits in their hair or nail care products. It can involve incorporating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and retinol into hair and nail care products, as well as focusing on a healthy diet, exercise, and stress management to promote healthy skin from the inside out.

The 2nd concept of skinification has gained popularity as people have become more interested in holistic approaches to health and beauty. It recognizes that the skin is a reflection of our internal health and that taking care of our overall well-being can improve the appearance and health of our skin.

Unlike traditional beauty routines that focus solely on the external appearance of the skin, skinification focuses on promoting health and wellness from within. This approach involves using natural and high-quality ingredients, focusing on a healthy diet and lifestyle, and adopting a holistic approach to beauty and wellness.

    Hair Care & Scalp Products

This is first area where the skinification trend emerged and caring for your scalp and hair follicle exemplify the trend.

Skinification has had a significant impact on the hair and scalp care industry, with consumers increasingly seeking out products that not only clean and style their hair but also nourish and protect their scalp. Hair and scalp care products that are designed with skinification in mind typically use high-quality natural ingredients that are gentle on the hair and scalp and provide nourishing and hydrating benefits.

Hair oils have become an essential part of the skinification of hair care routines. Oils such as argan oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil can be used to nourish and hydrate the hair and scalp, promoting healthy hair growth and preventing breakage. Hair oils can be applied directly to the scalp and hair, left on for a few hours or overnight, and then washed out with a gentle shampoo.

Skin care benefits in shampoos is already well established but now natural and/or caring ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile extract, and tea tree oil are being included to help soothe, nourish and hydrate the scalp.

Conditioners and shampoos that are designed with skinification in mind may contain nourishing ingredients like shea butter, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, honey and plant-based oils such as argan, avocado and jojoba. These ingredients can help hydrate and soften the hair, making it easier to style and reducing the risk of breakage.

When it comes to hair colourants, skinification principles involve using products that are free from harsh chemicals like ammonia and contain natural and skin caring ingredients, similar to the ones mentioned earlier. These products can provide color without damaging the hair or scalp. Additionally, hair colorants that contain nourishing ingredients like keratin and biotin can help strengthen the hair and prevent breakage.

The routines used for skinification hair care typically involve a combination of cleansing, conditioning, and nourishing the hair and which now also include the scalp. This may involve starting with a nourishing shampoo to cleanse the hair, following this up with a hydrating conditioner that contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or argan oil and finalising the routine with a caring oil for both hair, its follicle and scap. In addition, hair masks and serums, containing ingredients like vitamin E and fatty acids, may be used to help promote healthy hair growth and prevent breakage.

Overall, skinification has led to a shift in the hair and scalp care industry towards more natural, nourishing, and gentle products and routines. By adopting skinification principles in hair & scalp care, consumers can achieve healthy, shiny, and beautiful hair while also taking care of their scalp.

    Skinification in Makeup?

This is the 2nd dominant area of Skinification, as it has also influenced the makeup industry, with a growing number of consumers seeking out makeup products that not only enhance their appearance but also provide nourishment and protection for their skin. Makeup products that contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and SPF are becoming increasingly popular.

To incorporate skinification principles into your makeup routine, opt for products that contain nourishing ingredients and provide protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Additionally, consider adopting a “less is more” approach to makeup, e.g. single layer makeup, and focusing on enhancing your natural features rather than completely covering them up.

    Nail Care

Skinification has also influenced the nail care industry, with a growing number of consumers seeking out products that not only enhance the appearance of their nails but also provide nourishment and protection. Traditional nail care products can often be harsh and damaging to the nails, leading to brittleness and breakage. Skinification nail care products, on the other hand, typically use high-quality natural ingredients that are gentle on the nails and provide nourishment and hydration.

Skinification nail care routines may involve using a gentle nail polish remover that does not contain harsh chemicals like acetone. The nails may then be filed and buffed to smooth out any rough edges. A nourishing base coat and topcoat can be applied to protect the nails and promote healthy growth. In addition, using a cuticle oil regularly can help keep the cuticles soft and hydrated.

When it comes to nail polish, skinification principles involve using polishes that are free from harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and toluene. Additionally, nail polishes that contain nourishing ingredients like biotin and keratin can help strengthen the nails and prevent breakage.

Overall, skinification has led to a shift in the nail care industry towards more natural, nourishing, and gentle products and routines. By adopting skinification principles in nail care, consumers can achieve healthy, strong, and beautiful nails.

    Body & Hand Care

Skinification also extends to body and hand care routines and products. Just like with skincare, skinification of body and hand care products typically use high-quality natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin and provide nourishment and hydration. Ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera are commonly used in skinification body and hand care products.

Routines for body and hand care may include exfoliating to remove dead skin cells, followed by hydrating the skin with a nourishing body lotion or oil. Additionally, using a hand cream regularly can help keep the hands soft and supple.

    Perfume & Skinification?

So, … how will Skinification impact on the perfumes that we wear daily?

We expect that Skinification will impact on the world of perfumery, particularly in the development of fragrances that not only smell beautiful but also provide skincare benefits.

Skinification of perfumery products is only just emerging but perhaps differently to what you would expect. Some might say, it has always been present. For example, an ‘aftershave’ is already such a product, as it combines fragrancing with skin soothing in one product.

Traditionally, perfumes were solely focused on the scent, with little consideration given to the impact they may have on the skin and/or health and wellbeing of a person. However, skinification has led to a new generation of fragrances that contain ingredients that are not only safe for the skin and / or also provide nourishment and hydration. One such example are Natural Eau de Parfums or Eau de Toilettes.

Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne are different concentrations of fragrances, with Eau de Parfum being the strongest and most long-lasting and Eau de Cologne being the lightest and most refreshing. Skinification principles can be applied to all types of fragrances, with a focus on using high-quality natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin and provide nourishing benefits.

Fragrances that are designed with skin care benefits in mind may contain ingredients such as vitamin E, aloe vera, and chamomile extract, which can help soothe and hydrate the skin. Additionally, fragrances that contain antioxidants, like green tea extract, can help protect the skin from environmental damage.

Another expression are fragrances that are free from harsh chemicals and contain natural, nourishing ingredients. A further example are Natural Niche Perfumes that work in harmony with the microflora of your skin to change their olfactive profile and become totally unique to you, such as the ones offered by us, Pairfum London.

Equally, we would expect Body Care products to emerge that are more akin to an Eau de Toilette, e.g. with higher perfume concentrations, sprayable, … Along similar lines, new types of oil based perfume and alcohol free perfume can be expected to be introduced.

Overall, skinification is leading to a shift in the perfumery industry towards more natural, nourishing and gentle fragrances that not only smell fantastic but also provide skincare benefits. By choosing fragrances that are designed with skinification in mind, consumers can enjoy a beautiful scent while also taking care of their skin.

In other words, these will be products which fragrance and care for your skin at the same time, perhaps using some of the best actives we know from facial skin care.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, skinification is a growing trend that focuses on using skin care principles, routines and ingredients to enhance the health and appearance of hair, nails, and the body.

By adopting a holistic approach to beauty and wellness, consumers can achieve healthy, radiant skin, nails and hair from the inside out.

Whether it’s through hair care, makeup, or body and hand care routines, incorporating skinification principles can help promote overall health and well-being.

Pairfum London Happy Chinese New Year Mandarin Orange Fragrance

Mandarine Oranges and the Scent of the Chinese New Year

Pairfum Person Reflection Mandarin Blossom Sandalwood Eau De Parfum

The ‘Mandarine Orange’ is a sweet, juicy citrus fruit also named ‘Mandarin’ or ‘Mandarine’. Read about why they are the scent of the Chinese New Year.

The role of Mandarine Oranges in the Chinese New Year !

The mandarine orange is a native of China and an important symbol of Chinese traditionanl culture, a symbol of ‘good fortune’, with a significant sacral meaning during the Chinese New Year festivities.

Mandarines are symbols of the New Year and the expected positive changes. The shape and colour of mandarines symbolise the Sun and connects with the yang principle (the positive and generative force of nature). A symbol of good fortune, luck and success, mandarines are exchanged between families, friends and colleagues as offerings of goodwill during this time of festivities.

These richly coloured fruits (orange / red / gold) are placed on the family alter in a large pile during the Chinese New Year celebrations and are synoymous with prosperity and wealth. For the same reason, potted plants, rich with hanging mandarine oranges are a favourite indoor decoration during this festive season.

In Cantonese, mandarine are named “gut”, meaning “the lucky tree.” It is an ancient New Year tradition of the Chinese to place pairs of mandarines and red envelopes with money, beside the pillow of every child, in the box with the New Year treats and above the rice container of the home. It is believed this will bring good fortune to the house and its family.

The Chap Goh Meh Festival, the 15th day of the lunar New Year, marks the end of the Chinese New Year festivities and serves traditionally as a day for matchmaking. Young girls throw mandarine oranges into the rivers in the hope of gaining a husband by honouring the full moon. Likewise, young men line the streets straining to gain a glimpse of these young ladies who were normally not permitted outside in days gone bye.

Other uses of Mandarine Oranges in China

The essential ingredient in many Chinese sauces is the dried peel of the mandarine orange due to its wonderful citrus oils and other aromatic notes that will richly perfume any dish and remove any oily taste.

On the other hand, in traditional Chinese medicine, the dried peel is used to regulate the flow of the energy of life ( or chi ). Natural philosophers in Old China prescribed the peel as a medical remedy to reduce phlegm, treat abdominal problems and to stimulate healthy digestion.

    Mandarine Orange in Perfumery

Peel away the rind of a mandarine orange and out bursts a tempting mix of citrus oils with hints of cloves, ginger, jasmine and orange blossom. There are also undertones of star anise and saffron.

In perfumery, mandarine essential oil is greatly valued in the top notes of many light floral accords and colognes, for its invigorating, juicy sweet and fruity note but also its sensual, floral, neroli-like trail. The essential oil also blends harmoniously with other citrus oils and with many spice oils (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove).

Here at PAIRFUM, we are proud to introduce our new ‘pink grapefruit’ fragrance which contains mandarine essential oil. The addition of mandarin orange oil to the grapefruit accord makes this a truely great fragrance. It is indeed the perfect fragrance for the Chinese New Year.

‘Pink Grapefruit’ is available in the following luxury scented candles and reed diffusers:

    • Reed Diffusers (petite, classic and large size and in the bell, cube and tower shapes)

Are You Craving a Good Night’s Sleep? 14 x Tips!

Scientific Research shows that nearly 60% of us are struggling to sleep well and yet we all value a Good Night’s Sleep.

Sleep is as important for your body as a healthy diet or regular exercise and poor sleep has been linked to weight gain and heart disease amongst other long term health conditions.

The effects of ‘lack of sleep’ are immediate, both physically and mentally, and it can become hard to concentrate. Over time this can lead to further worries about the lack of sleep, with ever decreasing circles that can end in anxiety or even depression.

It is important to take steps to improve the quality of your sleep as soon as possible. Start and create a routine and have a `bedtime’, a regular time you go to bed.

Woman Sleeping Hiding Under The Covers Good Night's Sleep

Dr. Fariha Abbasi-Feinberg, a director at the AASM, recommends adopting healthy sleep routine and suggests the following 14 x tips to address short-term insomnia:

    1. Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
    2. Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
    3. Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
    4. If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed.
    5. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
    6. Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
    7. Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
    8. Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
    9. Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
    10. Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
    11. Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
    12. Avoid consuming caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.
    13. Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
    14. Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.

Our recommendation is to invest in a good sleep spray and spray your pillow and sheets before you go to bed. The blend of Lavender, Chamomile and Neroli is scientifically proven to aid with falling asleep.

Following as many of these 14 x Tips as you can, gives you the best chance of getting a Good Night’s Sleep, even at times when it is difficult.
